Just After Sunset - call it dusk, call it twilight, it's a time when human intercourse takes on an unnatural cast, when nothing is quite as it appears, when the imagination begins to reach for shadows as they dissipate to darkness and living daylight can be scared right out of you. It's the perfect time for Stephen King.

Description
The smash-hit best seller that inspired the acclaimed 1972 film starring Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox is now available in unabridged audio for the very first time.
The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.
This classic tale is vividly read by movie and TV star and Audie Award-winning narrator Will Patton.

Stellar narration of this classic thriller
I finished this in three days, one of which I was thoroughly hungover. The story was gripping, tense, and amazingly narrated. A+.

Marvellous Audiobook
This is an excellent book. James Dickey penned a story full of imagery, allegory, and symbolism. The 1972 John Boorman 'Deliverance' movie affected me because it was so engrossing.. and shocking. This book, on the other hand, qualifies as true "Literature" (the denouement is too long, but it's otherwise a nicely-constructed novel). There is much more here than can be offered by a Screenplay about four guys taking an ill-fated canoeing trip. The characters, for example (Ed, Louis, Drew, and Bobby) are far deeper than 109 minutes of running time can portray. The end result of a nailbiting plot and intensive characterization is an amazing viscerally-affecting payoff.
I have listened to Will Patton a number of times, and this is among the best performances in his repertoire. His timbre and tone for this moody book is nearly perfect. His cadence is spot-on. He delivers the text with enough emotiveness to allow the listener to feel what Dickey intended - unrelenting tension.
Patton's two main drawbacks are sibilance (the hisses and squeaks corrected somewhat by the engineers at Audible Studios), and slightly slow pacing (corrected by setting playback at 1.10X). In toto, the narration for this recording is imperfect, but commendable.
Do not hesitate to spend the Credit on this 9.5/10 star novel. Reading this book was a more satisfying experience than watching the admittedly excellent film - it's worth 7 hours of your time.

Loved this book! Dickey’s descriptions of the geography and river are incredible and Patton’s narration is one of the best I have ever heard. What a classic!!!
