Suddenly finding herself 40 and single, Lori Gottlieb said the unthinkable in her March 2008 article in The Atlantic: Maybe she, and single women everywhere, needed to stop chasing the elusive Prince Charming and instead go for Mr. Good Enough. Looking at her friends' happy marriages to good enough guys who happen to be excellent husbands and fathers, Gottlieb declared it time to reevaluate what we really need in a partner. By looking at everything from culture to biology, in Marry Him, Gottlieb frankly explores the dilemma that so many women today seem to face.

Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she even started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Description
Now being developed as a television series with Eva Longoria and ABC!
"An irresistibly addictive tour of the human condition." (Kirkus, starred review)
"Rarely have I read a book that challenged me to see myself in an entirely new light, and was at the same time laugh-out-loud funny and utterly absorbing." (Katie Couric)
"This is a daring, delightful, and transformative book." (Arianna Huffington, founder, Huffington Post and founder & CEO, Thrive Global)
"Wise, warm, smart, and funny. You must read this book." (Susan Cain, New York Times best-selling author of Quiet)
From a New York Times best-selling author, psychotherapist, and national advice columnist, a hilarious, thought-provoking, and surprising new book that takes us behind the scenes of a therapist's world - where her patients are looking for answers (and so is she).
One day, Lori Gottlieb is a therapist who helps patients in her Los Angeles practice. The next, a crisis causes her world to come crashing down. Enter Wendell, the quirky but seasoned therapist in whose office she suddenly lands. With his balding head, cardigan, and khakis, he seems to have come straight from Therapist Central Casting. Yet he will turn out to be anything but.
As Gottlieb explores the inner chambers of her patients' lives - a self-absorbed Hollywood producer, a young newlywed diagnosed with a terminal illness, a senior citizen threatening to end her life on her birthday if nothing gets better, and a 20-something who can't stop hooking up with the wrong guys - she finds that the questions they are struggling with are the very ones she is now bringing to Wendell.
With startling wisdom and humor, Gottlieb invites us into her world as both clinician and patient, examining the truths and fictions we tell ourselves and others as we teeter on the tightrope between love and desire, meaning and mortality, guilt and redemption, terror and courage, hope and change.
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is revolutionary in its candor, offering a deeply personal yet universal tour of our hearts and minds and providing the rarest of gifts: a boldly revealing portrait of what it means to be human and a disarmingly funny and illuminating account of our own mysterious lives and our power to transform them.
Ce que les critiques en disent
"Brittany Pressley performs this audiobook at a fast pace that will be familiar to listeners who live in large, bustling cities. But she knows how to moderate her energy for the tender sections, and her overall performance sounds authentic, conversational, and true to the core intentions of the author's story....Portrayed by Pressley, [the author] also sounds like someone you know, which makes her observations and insights all the more accessible." Enjoyable read
This is clearly a well written book and the narrator did a great job. Recommend it for those looking for entertaining but insightful story lines. I did feel that this is geared toward a female reader mostly. I couldn’t fully relate to some of the story lines. But that’s not to say that it wasn’t an excellent book.

Made me laugh and cry!
This book was incredible. The storyline, with the past and present tenses, was laid out perfectly. The characters were relatable, loveable, hateable and then loveable again. This audio book made me laugh and cry many times over and the narrator did such an amazing job. She has a warm and inviting voice that was also able to capture the different character’s pain, joy, confusion, and then content.
I’m actually thinking about purchasing the hard copy as well.
I highly recommend this book!

Listen to this book!
I have never ever left a book (or other kind) of review before. I feel compelled to do so now because I was so pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed this audio book. I LOVED it. I listened to it while exercising or doing household chores and it had me thinking about myself, the choices I’ve made, how I relate to others and the future. I laughed and I actually cried. The writing and the narration is excellent and engaging. It does not feel like a “self-help” book, but rather stories about characters you want to root for. I highly recommend this audio book.
