Story
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Story
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

What a great book. Just as good 10 years later!
In my 20s I worked at a few book stores and zombies were huge at that time ( they still are ). I read this book and it blew me away. I told so many people about it. The, the writing style and the storyline are all so well done ! It’s funny and smart.
Cut to more then 10 years later and I downloaded it for n audible and it was even better the second time ! 11/10

GOLD STAR!
This novel and subsequent audio book is written with the edge of an author that knows his craft. it is riveting accurately told and realistically portrayal of realistic situations and their effects from someone that has actually handled guns. I love this reader Jay Snyder too. He fits the character of the protagonist. Well done!

Very interesting and absorbing but...
I was captivated the entire time I read it to the end. There was no ending. I felt cheated.

Pumped Full of Action and Adrenaline
I have read the first 3 books of the Day by day series and I thought they were fantastic, but decided to come back and listen to them again. I have to say the narration style really helped you feel immersed in a desolate world filled with flesh craving monsters, where all hope for humanity feels lost. I just could not stop listening!
With that being said, this is a great listen for those who want non stop suspense and action, and really feel as if they were part of the zombie apocalypse!

A laborious journal in how to write uninteresting fiction
Oh man where to begin. The entire book is set in the perspective of a young military mans journaling through the zombie apocolypse. Day by day, number by number account of what he did and how he got through the struggle.
Written in the most uninteresting way you could think of and riddled with grammatical errors and plot holes. So many things don’t make sense and it just really lacks any humanity and art in the writing.
Makes me think the author loved the two renegade soldiers from dawn of the dead so much he wrote a book just about them.
Boring as hell cannot recommend.

wtf is the ending?! why end it so abruptly!
so I absolutely LOVED mostnof this book. but the abrupt ending COMPLETELY RUINED IT! the story itself was fantastic! great moments and well written. but litterly the LAST 1 minute of the story completely ruined it! no closure. nothing just suddenly ends with nothing. I thiught my audio messed up and cut out and stopped playing. that one 1 minute completely ruined the completion of this book and my enjoyment

The main character is boring
The protagonist is very dislikable AND boring somehow. The moment that made me decide to return it was when the main character was musing about how well the "eskimo" were fairing. Like it's the 1800s.
Read Dead By Night or World War Z instead.
