I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. Publisher's Summary
A rising star in the fantasy genre, Michael J. Sullivan has built an ardent following for his Riyria Revelations saga, which draws to its epic conclusion in Heir of Novron.
On the holiday of Wintertide, the New Empire plans to burn the Witch of Melengar and force the Empress into a marriage of their own design. One of my top favourites
This is the second time I've listened to the whole thing. It's a wonderful story. The main characters are brought to life by Reynolds, and it is easy to see yourself in pieces of the characters; each is unique in their own way, and I can't help but wish I could really be friends with them. Probably why I will listen to it a third time soon, just to be with them again.

Comfort reading
This series is easy listening/reading. It is thoroughly enjoyable with well structured but two dimensional characters. All narrative twists are carefully flagged so you can anticipate what is going to happen. However, it is still compelling enough to warrant listening.
Think of it as having the same structure as a romance novel. You know the story: there is adversity to overcome before everyone (nearly) gets what they deserve in the end.
This sounds like damning with faint praise, but I really recommend it for a beach-read.

A fitting conclusion
It took me 5 books to tell the difference between the two main characters. Once that was established the rest of the story was amazing.
If you haven't listened to the series then listen to the short stories, they are definitely worth the listen.
