Story
In the pretty, privileged college town of Milford, New Hampshire, everyone is friendly, and everything is safe. And on this cold autumn day, as red and yellow leaves begin to fall from the trees, and everyone wraps up for the first time, it would be easy to believe nothing bad could ever happen here. Until a screech of tires is heard, a thud, a child’s scream. The crash that sees Jenna’s six-year-old daughter, Amy Rose, being hit by a car driven by 17-year-old Maddie.

Publisher's Summary
A truly inspiring and heartbreaking book from the mother of little James Bulger - whose murder by two young boys shocked the world.
On 12th February 1993, Denise's life changed forever. As she was running errands at New Strand Shopping Centre, she let go of her two-year-old son's hand to take out her purse. Denise never saw her son again.
In this extraordinary and heart-wrenching audiobook comes the unflinching account of that terrible day from James Bulger's mother, Denise. What if she had never taken James shopping? What if she had turned right coming out of the butcher's instead of left? Would she have seen her son being led out of the centre by two children?
Denise's initial hope - of seeing her son on CCTV with other kids - quickly turned to devastation when, two days later, James' body was found. His murder shocked the world, as his killers became the youngest convicted murderers in the UK. Denise then took up a tortuous legal battle for James, and it was her astonishing strength and love for her son that ultimately helped to change the way the law treats victims of crime.
This is a mother's tale of finding a way through the despair to remember the happiness and wonderful memories that James brought his family. Above all, Denise doesn't want her son to be remembered as a murdered child, and with this beautifully written audiobook she does just that.

Just finished reading this book by Denise Fergus, and all I can say is that after all these years, there has been absolutely no Justice for that beautiful little boy who was lost all those years ago. My heart goes out to Denise and her entire family. I will never forget about her sweet James. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

Never forget
A heartwrenching book that gives insight into a mother's grief and a beautiful young life that was barbarically stolen. This book serves as both a memorial and an important reminder to look to the victims of violent crimes and put them at the forefront of our remembrances instead of catering to the false glory of the criminals. May the world be kept safe from the criminals who brutally murdered baby James and from other like monsters.

Hated to See It End
I felt like this story would be so hard to get through. And it was, don’t get me wrong. But the way Denise Fergus writes her story (and James’ story), and the way Siân Polhill-Thomas conveys all these emotions make it the kind of book you honestly hate to get to the end of. I wish James and his family could have had some real justice, because they certainly didn’t see any.

Definitely Worth the Audible Credit!
The choice of narrator to match the author's own accent gave this already intimate memoir of love and loss a truly authentic edge!
I was in early highschool when this tragedy occurred, with brothers one year older and one year younger than the killers. I couldn't wrap my young mind around how boys their age could do something so terribly violent to a baby. I still can't.
Denise did such an amazing job of bringing her murdered son to life through this book. We get to experience through her eyes the love she had for her rambunctious and sometimes mischievous boy, the devastation and panic of losing sight of him, and the weight of loss even as life moves forward with other children to follow. As an adult, I have momentarily lost sight of a child from time to time, and I cannot even begin to understand the sorrow and self blame that this woman has had to carry for the entirety of her life when her own moment ended so terribly.
So wonderful to see Denise turning that grief toward positive activism, which she details throughout the book. Know that by purchasing this book you are encouraging and supporting someone who truly deserves it! And may James' killers truly see justice someday!
