A forbidden love story set in the explosive world of the NBA . . .
Think you know what it's like being a baller's girl? You don't.
My fairy tale is upside down. A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud. I was a fool, and his love—fool's gold.
Now there's a new player in the game, August West. One of the NBA's brightest stars.
Fine. Forbidden. He wants me. I want him. But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won't let me go.

Raw & Emotional
This novel will bring you to tears...tears of anger, tears of trustration, tears of sorrow and tears of joy! Hard to listen to at times but so incredibly worth the pain! And the narrators were remarkable! One of the best I have listened to this year!

Kennedy Ryan is amazing as usual.
The book opened my eyes to a reality too many people go through in silence. This book actually needs a huge trigger warning. But what I learned was important. And the ending warmed my heart. One thing, it’s pronounced ay-too-fay. Lol

It was good.
It definitely needs a trigger warning, this book has some heavy topics in it. Domestic abuse, sexual abuse/rape, and postpartum depression.
I enjoyed listening to it, but when the male voice would do his girl impression it sounded like Michael Jackson to me and I could never get past that LOL.
Decent story, predictable ending, but overall good. Not really memorable characters, but not bad.

Woah… that was intense!
4.5/5 stars! I was not expecting this book to be that dark but it was extremely dark. Especially for a basketball sports romance. I wouldn’t necessarily consider this a “dark romance” but it was definitely a very serious one with major trigger warnings. Iris’ story completely broke my heart and certain parts were definitely hard to get through. August was so sweet and patient and both him and Iris deserve the world.
TW: Violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, violence with weapons, sexual assault with weapons, strong language and graphic sex scenes.

Heart Racer
From the first chapter I was captivated to follow the journey of the main characters. I road the emotional waves with them, laughed with them, cried with them and felt their pain as my own. I listened to this book with anticipation and I couldn’t wait to get to the next chapitre. It was soul crushing listening to the abuse that Iris went through and as a woman it made it even harder. I got angry for her and I was still able to cry with her, but I loved her revenge and reviled it in.
The story is one I will never forget and I have no doubts that although it is a fiction novel that there are women out who know this kink of pain and have trouble escaping it. It is a triggering book, but its only that because we know there is truth in the story for some women.

Unexpected
I went into this book somewhat blind and did not expect it to be what is was. The most raw, real depiction of an abusive relationship I've read about yet. It was so beautifully written.

Great story! Super narrators!
I’ve listened to this story multiple times and it always draws me in. Twists, turns and plot is incredible. Steamy sex and enough love making to make me shiver! Definitely worth the credit!

Nice ending. Needs an actual trigger warning!!!
“Some aspects of this story may be sensitive for some listeners.” BS! It contains graphic scenes of domestic abuse and rape. It’s not for everyone. I’d have rated this higher if I had been keen enough to read the reviews first. Actually if I had, I’m not sure I would’ve listened to this in the first place, but I digress.
That aside, this book overall was pretty decent. The first like 2/3 of it are difficult and pretty heartbreaking. The details Kennedy goes into are very real, especially through audio. The relationship between Iris and August is well written and yes, the instant connection trope is a little cliche, but it’s prolonged over a few years and builds.
Honestly, I probably won’t move past this one and leave the rest of the series alone because it was a little much for me, but if you can deal with the hard parts, it is a decent story and please read the other Hoops stories and let others know what you think.
