Publisher's Summary

A noted criminal defense attorney, Robert Rotenberg, delivers a courtroom drama that successfully evokes the multicultural city of Toronto even as it keeps readers on the edges of their seats. In the tale, the "Voice of Canada", a radio host, confesses to murder - but the case is far from closed.

What the critics say

"Rotenberg also fires sly and funny barbs at political correctness and bureaucratic inanity." ( Booklist)

You can tell he's had courtroom experience

His character description is true life. The judge is an autocratic with an ego that needs to be constantly stroked. The prosecutor is a bit naïve. His honesty seems to me is a bit out of character. The defence lawyer has a dream where she is in the wrong courtroom on the wrong date unprepared. A dream that we have all had such as going to write an exam and we've never opened the book or gone to class. The best character however is the homicide cop.
The plot has an interesting twist. Strange yet believable

Great Debut

This is Rotenberg's debut novel and it's really, really good. And as a Toronto-born, long suffering Toronto Maple Leaf fan, I enjoyed his optimistic look at the Leafs winning the Stanley Cup (as if!), but the hockey thread throughout really added to the atmosphere. You can tell that Rotenberg, an attorney himself, knows his way around a courtroom and the legal process. Onto book 2!
