THE INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER

The Oscar-nominated star who captivated the world with his performance in Juno finally shares his truth.

“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

With Juno’s massive success, Elliot became one of the world’s most beloved actors. His dreams were coming true, but the pressure to perform suffocated him. He was forced to play the part of the glossy young starlet, a role that made his skin crawl, on and off set. The career that had been an escape out of his reality and into a world of imagination was suddenly a nightmare.

As he navigated criticism and abuse from some of the most powerful people in Hollywood, a past that snapped at his heels, and a society dead set on forcing him into a binary, Elliot often stayed silent, unsure of what to do, until enough was enough. Full of behind the scenes details and intimate interrogations on sex, love, trauma, and Hollywood, Pageboy is the story of a life pushed to the brink. But at its core, this beautifully written, winding journey of what it means to untangle ourselves from the expectations of others is an ode to stepping into who we truly are with defiance, strength, and joy.

Heartbreaking, hopeful and informative

I am so glad that Elliot was able to share his story. There was so much insight into gender identity and relationships that was truly enlightening. Moreover, having grown up in the same local haunts it was amusing to hear the smattering of Halifax events circa my youth! A very brave and I hope healing process for Elliot. We may not know one another but I’m tremendously proud of you.

Captivating storytelling.

Performance 10/10. Relatable even as a cis woman and not just the obsession with ketchup chips.

Insightful,honest and inspirational

I just finished the book and I really appreciate the rawness and honesty that are woven into every word. I always respected Elliot as an actor and was interested in finding out about what is is like being trans from a trans person’s perspective. I cried finding out about some of the horrific things he experienced. I truly felt his pain and it fills my eyes with tears now writing this. I hope one day we will be privy to a world that is truly accepting without hate and prejudice.

Great listen

It’s so important to hear the stories of trans men and women and this was another great one. While at times I couldn’t understand the chronology, the honesty was consistent.

Overall, really enjoyable read

I found this captivating, especially being from Nova Scotia. I'm not sure Elliot Page would be a great choice to narrate most audiobooks (even though I do appreciate his acting a lot), but telling his own story, he was perfect. Maybe it would have been easier to follow had it been linear, but I had no problem with the way it was presented. I listened to the whole book in one day and really enjoyed it.

Powerful, moving and necessary

The raw honesty of this memoir is so deeply and profoundly moving. I can’t imagine having the strength and bravery to be so open with my pain. Elliot is a truly remarkable human being and one whose words should be taken to heart. Thank you Elliot for being so incredibly open and fearless.
