Story
This is a manual designed to get white belts to competent blue belts in as fast a time as possible. Zen Jiu Jitsu is more a rendition of concepts than techniques. This is the simplest and easiest way to break down and simplify the many and varied ideas, philosophies, and combinations in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu arsenal. For both competition Jiu Jitsu and self-defense Jiu Jitsu, most white belts need to fully understand the concepts, but they can be VERY confusing!

Are you stuck? Struggle. That's the word that comes to mind when I think about the transition from blue belt to purple belt. For reasons that I can't quite work out, when I came to the later stages of being a blue belt I felt confused and lost in my game. Trying to put all the pieces together seemed like a task too far and quitting looked like an option, after all, most guys my age are hitting the golf course or surfing not rolling on the floor with sweat soaked people.

People are less in touch with their bodies - and especially their breathing - than ever before. Ironically, athletes and others who pride themselves on taking care of their bodies actually put themselves at greater risk. Why? Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing.

Good Stuff!
This is a very insightful and well written collection of important ideas that could help you improve yourself in a variety of fronts from jiu-jitsu to personal life and almost anything in between. What sets Danaher's writing apart from the rest of the martial arts crowd is the fact that he is capable of expressing every thought to the smallest little details which goes to show the perks that come with graduating a philosophy major. No matter where one stands in regards to ranks and experience with BJJ, the book still manages to offer something valuable for all. I highly recommend this book. It's a good and down to the point kind of read in my opinion. I can't really think of any shortcomings in all honesty.
