Story
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

As Wulfric pursues Adalhaid's Blood Debt, he soon learns that the path to revenge is never easy. The Blood Debt: A blade fit for a hero. An army for a tyrant. Publisher's Summary
An epic novel of love, knowledge, jealousy, and hard choices.
Ayla, the independent heroine of the Earth's Children series, sets out from the valley on Whinney, the horse she tamed. With her is Jondalar, the tall, handsome, yellow-haired man she nursed back to health and came to love. Together they meet Mamutoi - the Mammoth Hunters - people like Ayla. But to Ayla, who was raised by the Clan of the Cave Bear, they are the "Others". She approaches them with a mixture of fear and curiosity.
It is the Mamutoi master carver of ivory - dark-skinned Ranec, flirtatious, artistic, magnetic - who Ayla finds herself drawn to the most. Because of her uncanny control over animals, her healing skills, and the magic firestone she discovers, Ayla is adopted into the Mammoth Hearth by Mamut, the ancient shaman of the Great Earth Mother.
Ayla finds herself torn between her strong feelings for Ranec and her powerful love for the wildly jealous and unsure Jondalar. It is not until after the great mammoth hunt, when Ayla's life is threatened, that a fateful decision is made.

Excellent historical info perfectly integrated
I've listened to this series 100's if not more times and of all the novels this has some of my favorite parts to the story, such as finding the little wolf cub or the heroin's bravery to stand up for what's right no matter what.

like reading/hearing it for the first time!
My father gave me a copy of the Clan of the Cave Bear sometime when I was 14/15, around 1996-97. and was thrilled when The Land of Painted Caves came out in 2011. I Only just discovered the whole series of Audio books about 6 weeks ago. it's like reading it for the first time even tho I've read the entire series at least four times, and especially the valley of the horses an additional two. The narrator tells the story wonderfully, I was not disappointed but relieved, after hearing the first book, that they kept the same woman to finish the entire series. A++++
