Story
My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me. On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth. Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

Story
From the acclaimed author of Her Every Fear and The Kind Worth Killing comes a diabolically clever tale of obsession, revenge, and cold-blooded murder - a sly and brilliant guessing game of a novel. Harry Ackerson has always considered his stepmother, Alice, to be sexy and beautiful in an "otherworldly" way. She has always been kind and attentive, if a little aloof in the last few years. Days before his college graduation, Alice calls with shocking news. His father is dead, and the police think it's suicide.

Story
Home alone with her young children during a blizzard, a mother tucks her son back into bed in the middle of the night. She hears a noise—old houses are always making some kind of noise. But this sound is disturbingly familiar: it’s the tread of footsteps, unusually heavy and slow, coming up the stairs. Shrouded in the shadows, she sees the figure of a man appear down the hallway. Terrified, she quietly wakes her children and hustles them into the oldest part of the house, a tiny, secret room concealed behind a wall.

Publisher's Summary
The perfect girls' weekend turns deadly in this twisty unforgettable thriller that is perfect for fans of Shari Lapena and Riley Sager.
A girls' weekend to die for.
New friends Sam, Margaret and Diana are thrilled to be getting out of the city for a girls’ weekend - they’ve bonded over their messy divorces, and every mile on the odometer feels like another step towards putting their exes in the past. But when car trouble halfway into their trip strands them in the most unlikely of mountain towns, they come face-to-face with the hurts and betrayals they were so desperate to leave behind.
When Diana doesn't return home after a night out, Sam and Margaret's search for her reveals just how little they know about their friend. As eerie coincidences and secrets begin to pile up, and an ex-boyfriend arrives in the tiny town, the women realize that their detour may not have been a mistake...and that someone wants to guarantee that they never make it out.

Fantastic!
The Audible reviews are right: this is a fantastic audiobook! I enjoyed it thoroughly. The suspense builds slowly but begins almost immediately and it's told with a born storyteller's excellent pacing. While most suspense fiction requires too much suspension of disbelief, The Perfect Escape doesn't. The three narrators are spot-on and carry the audiobook extremely well. I'm happy to give it 5 out of 5 stars on every count, and I'll be searching out more books by author Leah Konen in the future.

Better than I expected
I bought this title on sale, mostly as I enjoy listening to one of the narrators. I listen to a lot of this genre, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was totally listenable, kept me interested and engaged, And much better than the last two full price "thrillers" that I had used credits on, prior to this one (I haven't been able to finish either of those).
I listened to it in just two days. Would recommend.

Enthralling book
It dragged at the beginning but then picked up and I was captivated. The characters are all so flawed, and hard to connect to. But the story is twisty and has a few unexpected turns, plus the narration is great.
The only thing that really grated on me was repeated referrals to 36 year old women as old and unworthy, very juvenile and mean, and just shouldn't be in a book.
