The Nursery turned horror I didn't know I needed!
Wow! I absolutely loved it! I followed the author on fb as he had hilarious posts, and when he posted his book I had to check it out.Started it without reading any reviews or even the summary.
6 out of 5 star. I lovedddd every minute of it.
Thanks for the incredibly hard to go to work the next mornings, after staying up wayyyy too late, getting lost in this descriptive, magical, emotional rollercoaster of a book.
This book blew me away. Going from childhood book nostalgia (think of Beatrix Potter books, example "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny") to nursery rhyme gone dark and vengeful! I've never read anything like it. So original and animated.
The author makes you feel for each and every character, making them both a villain and a victim. Just when you start to really dislike a character, they throw in a crazy tortuous back story and you can't help but love them!
Must Read! Loved it.

Visceral
First. Wonderfully narrated by the author.
Second. This story weaves so many of our childhood fairy tales into a wonderful, horrible story you will never forget. Elements of Peter Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, Animal Farm, Watership Down and so many more create an aching tapestry of rich characters trapped on a literal island. Add a dash of Stephen King horror and irreverence, Read twice, back to back, just because.
Third. Jonathan Edward Durham has a fluid descriptive style punctuated by elusive prose. This was a wonderfully crafted book from front to back. A great read and I can't wait for his next offering.
Happy Barley Day.

Lyrical and dark
Beautiful prose reminiscent of Watership Down or Wind in the Willows if those stories turned out very dark. Old fashioned narrative in best way but really interesting twist. Worth the listen.
