Publisher's Summary

From legendary storyteller and master of short fiction Stephen King comes an extraordinary new collection of twelve short stories, many never-before-published, and some of his best EVER.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest. King writes to feel “the exhilaration of leaving ordinary day-to-day life behind,” and in You Like It Darker, listeners will feel that exhilaration too, again and again.

“Two Talented Bastids” explores the long-hidden secret of how the eponymous gentlemen got their skills. In “Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream,” a brief and unprecedented psychic flash upends dozens of lives, Danny’s most catastrophically. In “Rattlesnakes,” a sequel to Cujo, a grieving widower travels to Florida for respite and instead receives an unexpected inheritance—with major strings attached. In “The Dreamers,” a taciturn Vietnam vet answers a job ad and learns that there are some corners of the universe best left unexplored. “The Answer Man” asks if prescience is good luck or bad and reminds us that a life marked by unbearable tragedy can still be meaningful.

King’s ability to surprise, amaze, and bring us both terror and solace remains unsurpassed. Each of these stories holds its own thrills, joys, and mysteries; each feels iconic. You like it darker? You got it.

I'd like it darker!

I adore Stephen King, have since Carrie came out, I am a Constant reader. Most books I own are his and I listen to many over and over. His recent work I also love- Billy Summers, The Institute, and Fairy Tale are 3 favs. One because of a dog named Radar. :)

That said, I'm almost done this audiobook and am wondering where's the darkness here? Full Dark, No stars- was pretty dark, and I loved it. This one is quite enjoyable but not so dark at all. In fact... Joe Hill sounds more like Old King, than Old King does!
He's mellowed like wine perhaps. I'm not interested in getting jump scared at my age particularly either, so the mellowing happened on both our parts.
SO happy that my favourite narrator Will Patton, does most of the narrating. He makes any book shine.
I may change my review after listening to the last 6 hours.
Actually, I have. Rattlersnake(s) with it's tie to Duma Key- absolutely great story.
Lori (Laurie?) because dog- I loved. And two Talented Bastids,

Stephan King

I don’t know where to start. I’ve loved Stephan King’s writing since I was a child, now n my senior years I’m happy this has not changed. He’s the master of character development. You may or may not love them but they are always rich.
I highly recommend this book just as all his other stories

It was decent enough

Stephen King prolific as he is has always struggled with short stories I doubt any true fan of his can disagree however every now and then he comes out with a story that will make your skin crawl and like with 1922, rattlesnakes was that in this.. That story was next level Eririe, it's thr type of story that reminds you of epic this author truly is. Rattlesnakes made it worth the time

I do like it darker but it is definite not…sadly.

Lovely bedtime stories, nothing more.
Nice writing but there is no dark here, barely grey.
Will Patton saved this book from being mediocre. I’m a fan for life, this book will not change that but if you like it darker, don't hold your breath… it’s not.

My hopes are dashed.

I really, really hoped for the Stephen King of the good ol' days... the one who had bite to his stories. But, sigh, as with his other recent works, I was disappointed by this more mellow King who I find - dare I say it - rather boring. As a matter of fact, when and if another book is published, I may pass. As for "You Like It Darker" there may be a bit of twilight woven into these stories but they sorely lack the promised dark. Oh well, Mr. King has brought me many, many years of fabulous stories that have ranged from the harrowing dramatic to the sleep-with-the-lights-on scary so I cannot complain. I also can't complain about Will Patton who, as usual, treats us to a fine performance.
