Publisher's Summary

In the year before The Phantom Menace, Yoda, Mace Windu, and the entire Jedi Council confront a galaxy on the brink of change.

The Jedi have always traveled the stars, defending peace and justice across the galaxy. But the galaxy is changing, and the Jedi Order along with it. More and more, the Order finds itself focused on the future of the Republic, secluded on Coruscant, where the twelve members of the Jedi Council weigh crises on a galactic scale.

As yet another Jedi Outpost left over from the Republic’s golden age is set to be decommissioned on the planet Kwenn, Qui-Gon Jinn challenges the Council about the Order’s increasing isolation. Mace Windu suggests a bold response: All twelve Jedi Masters will embark on a goodwill mission to help the planet and to remind the people of the galaxy that the Jedi remain as stalwart and present as they have been across the ages.

But the arrival of the Jedi leadership is not seen by all as a cause for celebration. In the increasing absence of the Jedi, warring pirate factions have infested the sector. To maintain their dominance, the pirates unite, intent on assassinating the Council members. And they are willing to destroy countless innocent lives to secure their power.

Cut off from Coruscant, the Jedi Masters must reckon with an unwelcome truth: While no one thinks more about the future than the Jedi Council, nobody needs their help more than those living in the present.

Fun times with the Jedi Council

It's pretty much just a book where you get to hang out with the Jedi Council and getting to know them a bit and I think that's pretty great.

THIS is the Jedi

Miller at his best! Every one of the 12 Council Members is breathed to life - they will all piss you off AND endear themselves to you! Excellent Qui-Gon and Obi Wan content thrown in the mix and you have a MASTERPIECE! This is THE tribute to the Living Force. Zalastra is best understood as a tragic character, rather than an out and out villain.
Johnathan Davis BRILLIANT as always!

Quality Voice Acting and Story

This was a fun story to see some jedi masters getting out there in the galaxy problem solving and exploring a new world. Greatly written. Voice acting was surprisingly good!

A fun, self-contained story with characters we care about.

Very refreshing to have a well written story by JJM with a beginning, middle, and end, with familiar characters. Not like the High Republic series which has turned into a connect-the-dots slog with endless characters to learn and forget with little payoff.

It’s a mixed bag with Marc Thompson narrating. He’s got a huge range of voices but tends to over-act which creates some grating and frustrating parts. The blustery old man and whiny young girl pop up in multiple of his works. But some voices are amazing including Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.

Overall, it is worth the journey.

Interesting but underdeveloped.

a story that tries to tackle some interesting issue the 12 council members have a few years before the Phantom Menace. i feel as those this novel could have been very interesting however i found it fell short at time to really dive into the deeper themes and concepts it lines up. covering all 12 members of the jedi council too was ambitious as some are well explored and used and others feel like side characters. i wishwe could have seen a bit more depth with some of their philosophies and points of view.
The vouce acting for the main cast were great as usual, however there were a few side characters that were hard to listen too, almost grating and annoying unfortunately.

over all i really wanted to like this book but its just ok. feels like a surface level version of a much deeper story waiting to be told.
