absolutely enthralling

thoroughly enjoyed this read. The start of Nathaniel Garro's storyline, the introduction of the nurgle rot, the vivid descriptions. this was the first book out of the series that I genuinely wanted to keep reading on. Also fantastic reading by Keeble. Does a great job of differencing characters and voices. Top job!

Flight of the Eisenstein Shines with flying colour

This excellent installment is a gripping tale of betrayal and brotherhood, of horror and faith.

with a stunning and dynamic narration that varies from calm and soothing to intense and energetic based on content but never ceases to immerse the listener in the heart wrenching struggle that the desperate heroes of the far future must brave constantly.

the only notable downside is that the prose can be somewhat repetitive at times; this is, however, due mostly to the authors adherence to the specific terminology of the setting rather than any inability to demonstrate an extensive vocabulary.

All in all, Flight of the Eisenstein was a spectacular addition to the Horus Heresy saga and well worth the attention of both seasoned black library fans and newcomers alike.

One of the best 40k audiobook, very good. Garo

One of the best 40k audiobook, very good. Garo is a great character, need more of him.
Can we have more real woman voices in the audiobooks in general however.

Flight and Fight

I can see why so many people list "Flight of the Eisenstein" as their favourite of the Horus Heresy books. Taking a step back from the epic scale of the first three books, this volume focuses on the more intimate story of a comparatively small group fleeing the massacre at Istvaan III. That more personal focus allows the protagonist, Battle Captain Nathaniel Garro to truly shine. James Swallow allows us to spend enough time with Garro to make the character a worthy successor to Garviel Loken as the audience's primary POV character. Familiar faces like Euprhrati Keeler, Mersadie Oliton and Kyril Sindermann are given great due, and bring a much-needed sense of continuity to this next chapter of the Heresy saga. Even smaller characters, such as the captain and first officer of the Eisenstein are so well-realized that their impact transcends their page count. Swallow does a fantastic job of maintaining the tone of the Heresy, while unmistakably putting his own spin on the narrative. He also continues the vital work of brining humanity to the grim darkness of the far future, especially where the Astartes are concerned.

And, as Garro to Loken, Jonathan Keeble is a worthy inheritor to Toby Longworth's job of narrator. Longworth left big shoes to fill, and Keeble fills them ably. His energy especially stands out, filling battles and the moment of the Eisenstein's escape with an undeniable urgency that places the listener right in the centre of the action. His range is outstanding, especially considering the vocal backflips he must have done to create the gurgling, pestilent sounds of all the Nurgle-affiliated characters that appear. His take on Euphrati's voice may strike some as perhaps a bit too elderly-sounding for the character, but that is a minor quibble in an outstanding performance. His portrayal of her motivations and emotions, as with all other characters, is spot on. Keeble breathes life into the 31st Millennium with a verve and vigor that cannot help but transport the listener right into the thick of it.

The Legend of Nathaniel Garro begins

#Audible1 First let me say that I am a huge fan of Nathaniel Garro's story which gets its start right here in this book. The book is one of my favorite and James Swallow joins Dan Abnett as one of my favorite HH authors for the black library. Jonathan Keeble does a good job narrating it, however, my own personal preference would have been to have Toby Longworth. This book is a MUST for any Garro Fan.
