People in relationships with avoidants struggle with their lack of responsiveness and inability to tolerate real intimacy. Relationships between an avoidant and a partner of another attachment type are the largest group of unhappy relationships, and people who love their partners and who may have started families and had children with an avoidant will work very hard to try to make their relationships work better, out of love for their partner and children as well as their own happiness.

Millions of people around the world have insecure attachment styles. Anxious attachment is a common form of insecure attachment, and it creates worry and distrust in relationships. Twenty percent of all people have an anxious attachment style, which makes it hard for those people to build relationships that feel safe. When you have an insecure attachment style, you may tend to self-sabotage relationships, and you may feel unable to trust your partner’s love.

Overthinking is a toxic behavioral pattern for relationships, and chances are you already have a first-hand experience of that. Most of the time, a simple unanswered call or text can trigger a spiral or ruminations and dreadful scenarios that leave you emotionally and physically drained. Experts agree that one of the most common triggers for overthinking patterns is insecurity, which can lead to anxiety and depression.

Relationships have always been essential to human survival. Our bodies and brains are programmed to seek out connection, whether familial, romantic, or platonic. And yet, these vital bonds are often at the root of our deepest suffering. While our hearts are primed for compassionate connection, our nervous systems—which store all our past hurts and disappointments—are wired for threat and negativity.

Description
A road map for building strong and secure relationships for those who struggle with anxiety in their romantic connections.
An estimated 47 million Americans identify as having an anxious attachment style, which can make being in relationships turbulent and emotionally taxing for them. According to groundbreaking research in the field of attachment, anxious types are more prone to insecurity, jealousy, codependency, and other behaviors that get in the way of finding and sustaining love. In Anxiously Attached, seasoned psychotherapist and couples counselor Jessica Baum guides listeners through understanding their attachment style at its core and building the inner strength and self-love that will lead them to more secure and satisfying relationships.
Developed over ten years in private practice, Baum’s signature Self-full® Method has helped her clients get off the toxic roller coaster of anxious attachment and discover the secure and mutually supportive relationships they deserve. In this book readers will learn how to:
- Create boundaries to safeguard their sense of self-sovereignty in relationships
- Communicate to their partners what they need to feel safe and secure in the relationship
- Develop a secure sense of self-worth and emotional stability
- Learn the true meaning of a healthy/interdependent relationship and how to establish one with their partner or future partner.
- Discover a compassionate path towards healing through experiences like mediation practices where they can start to develop more insight into their internal landscape.
- Attain a deep understanding of the anxious-avoidant dance that is extremely common in intimacy struggles.
Anxiously Attached offers a practical and holistic approach for overcoming anxious attachment issues to discover happier, more fulfilling relationships.

This book will help you!
This is the book you need to help you with Anxious Attachment. If you struggle with this you will find an ally in the author, because she also experienced Anxious Attachment. The author, Jessica Baum, narrates the book and you can trust her...you can lean on her to take you through the other side of the awful feelings you get when you're triggered and worried that you will be abandoned by your partner. This book is what you need to just be at peace. Do the work within the book and you will find relief, finally...all with Jessica by your side.

Wonderful
I rarely leave reviews. I feel compelled to for this book in case anyone else feels they are an anxiously attachment type. This book is incredibly helpful, compassionate, hopeful, and empowering. Plan on making a lot of notes.
The soothing voice and author’s words makes me want to listen to this again and again.
Special thanks to the author for your work and taking the time to share with us. My little me is giving you a big hug

Life changing
First Jessica’s narration. I felt she was in the room with me. Gentle and caring.
Second. I believe in lifelong growth and learning. This book helped me understand more about why I behave the way I do sometimes. Gave me tools to change those behaviours and embrace my inner self.
Third. So many people have the challenges that Jessica outlined in the book. I think for anyone having relationship issues, listening to this book with your partner could open up great conversations and help to bring more compassion and deeper understanding.
Lastly, I have already recommended the book to several friends. I hope it helps them as much as it helped me.
Thank you, Jessica for bravely sharing your experiences and giving anyone with anxious attachment, the kindness and community to know we’re not alone.

Really good but still falls a bit short
First rate explanation of attachment theory and real life examples of how to do inner exploration and growth by recognizing our inner “little me” and taking responsibility for creating a safe and comforting environment for ourselves in which to (possibly) heal and grow.
What is lacking, I’m sorry to say, is the part about actual healing. The book jumps from a sort of hopeful and tender narrative about finding and nurturing your inner “little me” to a bunch of examples of people going to a few sessions with a therapist and then just ending their relationships. Much of the advice seems to be to cut your losses (know when to quit) and walk away. While this is still more insightful than Kenny Rogers’ timeless gambler’s classic song, it’s basically the same thing “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em etc.”.
I know that there are plenty of options out there for people to grow in relationship with another, imperfect person (couples counselling, EFT, Imago, etc.). Sadly, the author does not seem to be aware of these approaches, nor to value the possible benefits they offer to individuals who are ready to heal and grow.
My final critique is that this seems to be mostly from a female perspective and not necessarily an “enlightened” one. Most of the examples are of women stuck with apparently hopeless men. It’s almost a trope as presented.
I’d love to see a revised version with more options for healing as well as a more gender balanced perspective.

Best book I've come across in years!
I'm a social worker, but like the author, had relationship challenges due to an insecure attachment style with my parents. I promise you, this book will make sudden sense of your world--how we repeat the patterns we were raised in. No matter how hard we try not to repeat them, the odds are so high. This book helps us stop that, once and for all. Definitely a great book to gift young adults, as well. Save them heartache and teach them self-love and confidence!!!

Absolutely loved this book!
I think this book actually changed my life . The author narrates and also guides you though therapy and meditation. I listened to most of it while walking and did the meditation at home. I am still using these techniques after finishing the book weeks ago . I was brought to tears a couple times with realizations but now know I am not alone . My little me now knows this too. Thank you Jessica
