Description
When Uncle Tom's Cabin was published in 1852, it became an international blockbuster, selling more than 300,000 copies in the United States alone in its first year. Progressive for her time, Harriet Beecher Stowe was one of the earliest writers to offer a shockingly realistic depiction of slavery. Her stirring indictment and portrait of human dignity in the most inhumane circumstances enlightened hundreds of thousands of people by revealing the human costs of slavery, which had until then been cloaked and justified by the racist misperceptions of the time.

Wow! Richard Allen really makes this book come to life. The way he sings the old hymns in the book is beautiful.

I haven't cried that hard at a book in 3 decades.
There's a reason why this book helped launch the end of the slave era.
You fall in love with the characters and then.... there's some pretty big sadnesses.
5 stars definitely recommend!

Wow! This book has enriched our lives.
The topic of slavery can be incredibly hard to study and listen to but is so necessary to remind us of our history. The story is so well told and it brings the emotion and devastation of all these situations without being gory and super explicit. Often I deliberately went back to re-read an excerpt because it was so intelligently written, truths hidden in a cleverly written way. I loved the broad viewpoints brought out in this book. Well worth the time to read/listen.

Be an Uncle Tom and not a Sambo
Enjoyed the storytelling and characters. It gave me a better perspective on what the term, “Uncle Tom” should mean.

Performance of the reader it was outstanding
I was worried that the narrator would be difficult to listen to since he would change his voice for each character but he did a tremendous job. The stories in the book are very touching and heartbreaking.

An excellent story!
This was hard to listen to at times due the difficult content. I would recommend this to anyone, though. Very thought provoking.
