Publisher's Summary

The best American novel to emerge from World War I, A Farewell to Arms is the unforgettable story of an American ambulance driver on the Italian front and his passion for a beautiful English nurse.

Hemingway's frank portrayal of the love between Lieutenant Henry and Catherine Barkley, caught in the inexorable sweep of war, glows with an intensity unrivaled in modern literature, while his description of the German attack on Caporetto, of lines of fired men marching in the rain, hungry, weary, and demoralized, is one of the greatest moments in literary history.

A story of love and pain, of loyalty and desertion, A Farewell to Arms, written when he was 30 years old, represents a new romanticism for Hemingway.

great narration, great story.

Not a single word in the ending was redundant, every word was stabbing into my heart like a sharp dagger.
Plus, the narrator sounded just like the characters jumping out from the story.

A Perfect Audiobook

Slattery's sharp delivery destroys the notion that Hemingway wasn't funny. Hilarious and heartbreaking and great.

Slattery gives phenomenal perfornace

Listened at 1.2 speed. Can't tell if I really enjoyed the book or just the performance. Perfect for anyone who struggles with Hemingway's writing style.

Hemingway breaks all the rules

It has never been more clear how much fiction has changed over the past century than reading A Farewell to Arms. Yet this gripping compelling novel tells a beautiful story of love and war like no one else could. Just don’t hold out for happily ever after.

What a fine writer

I’ve been meaning to reread this book for a long time, so audio was a great way to do it. Great narration. The story didn’t end how I expected/ remembered, sad. Great writing.

Great book!

It's a powerful story of struggle between hope and hopelessness, of how people can be as vicious as nature itself, from which we stem and to which we are bound. Great writing and production!

Powerful!

Very well read, the passion and performance the narrator puts into book is phenomenal
The story as well is as good as it was made out to be. It definitely felt like being transported back in time to WW1 and how things were a little simpler and more romancisized. I would strongly recommend this book.
