Publisher's Summary
Eight years later and out on parole, Nikki hires Kinsey Millhone, a gutsy P.I., to find the real killer. The trail is cold, but Kinsey finds a lead that brings her face-to-face with the murderer!
This is the first in the popular series featuring California investigator Kinsey Millhone. She's 32, twice divorced, no kids, an ex-cop who likes her work...and who works strictly alone!
What the critics say
"Grafton has created a woman we feel we know, a tough cookie with a soft center, a gregarious loner....Smart, well-paced and very funny." (Newsweek)

Inexplicable mispronunciations!
I love these stories and Kinsey Millhone. But the narrator's choice of pronunciations on simple words like the airport LAX (as lax like laxity) and finis (Kinsey was saying finished in French, so it's pronounced fi-knee but she said fin-iss). It comes across as lazy and underprepared. Her robotic voice is also a little disconcerting, removing a lot of the humour I hear in Kinsey's voice when I read the books myself. It's like it's Siri reading the books (or some other AI).

Waste of a credit
This was my first Grafting novel. I can’t figure out if I’m hating it so because of the terrible narrator or because the story is not engaging. I guess I’ll try to listen to it until the end because of the time committed up into now but if you haven’t wasted your credit or money: do yourself a favour a skip it
