Publisher's Summary

In the words of the Buddha, the four foundations of mindfulness (the four sadhipatthanas) are " the direct path for the purification of beings, for the surmounting of sorrow and lamentation, for the disapperance of dukkha (suffering) and discontent, for the acquiring of the true method, for the rea;ization of Nibbahna." Within the quinitessential discourse called the Satipatthana Sutta, we find the Buddha's seminal teachings on the practice of meditation.

Wonderful work of the Dhamma

Joseph Goldstein is a wonderful Dhamma teacher for a number of reasons. Firstly, he frequently delineates examples from his extensive meditation background where he had challenges and difficulties. These difficulties are very often experienced by many people walking the path, so for someone so knowledgeable and wise as Goldstein to explain that these experiences are normal and not shameful is inspiring. Then, he outlines what to do about it, based on a rigorous analysis of the Sattipatthana sutta by Bhikkhu Analayo. This series is exceptional because one gets both the wisdom of Analayo and Goldstein superimposed upon each other, which is something wonderful to behold. I could go on about how warming this series is to the heart, and how extensive it is in many ways, but by this point I think you'll either be convinced to try it out or to look for something else :)
