Publisher's Summary
She is accompanied by the soldiers Justin and Tayse, two King's Riders who are unswervingly loyal to the crown. Also on the journey are the shape-changers Kirra and Donnal, and a young mystic named Cammon who can practically read minds.
It's soon clear that not only are marlords planning a rebellion, but that they are being aided by Daughters of the Pale Mother, a fanatical religious sect that hates mystics. While Senneth can clearly take care of herself, Tayse finds himself unable to stop watching her - determined both to protect her and to uncover her secrets.
BONUS AUDIO: Includes an exclusive introduction by author Sharon Shinn.

Worth listening to
I have re-read this book over the years and now listen to it over and over. The author builds well rounded characters that are then narrated in voices that match the character. While listening to the book you know who is talking both by the voice and knowing that is what that character would say. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the books and trying any others narrated by Jennifer Van Dyck. #Audible1

Maybe not for me
I’d heard good things about this series and was looking forward to learning about a new world. Unfortunately this book didn’t really do it for me. Annoying voices for the characters, a plot that has basically no conflict. The only impression I’m left with is that this group of characters spends a lot of time sitting around campfires and dinner tables disgorging world building. I’ll be giving the rest of this series a pass.
