Publisher's Summary

"Tan France's unique accent, chummy intimacy, and cheeky delivery make audio the best way to experience his memoir." — AudioFile Magazine

This program is read by the author, with a special guest appearance!

In this heartfelt, funny, and touching memoir, one of the stars of Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning smash-hit Queer Eye reveals how an Englishman raised in a traditionally religious home became a fashion icon - and the first openly gay, South Asian man on television - simply by being Naturally Tan.

Before he became famous as one of the Fab Five makeover experts, Tan France was the youngest child in his family, growing up in South Yorkshire, England. As a member of one of the very few South Asian, Muslim families living in the predominantly white community, he was routinely bullied for both his culture and his skin color.

Knowing he was gay from an early age, Tan harbored that secret to avoid further racial harassment and potentially cause a rift between him and his family. It was a secret he would keep from them until finally coming out at the age of 34 - happily married to Rob, a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.

With his trademark wit, humor, and radical compassion, Tan shares his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way about being a successful businessman, a devoted spouse, and self-acceptance. From navigating the gay community; to finding the love of his life; to creating a popular ladies’ clothing lines for Kingdom & State and Rachel Parcell, Inc.; to joining Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness on Queer Eye as positive, representative celebrity role models for LGBTQ people; Tan followed his own path to develop his signature style and embrace life on his own terms.

Full of his candid observations about US and UK cultural differences, social media behavior, celebrity encounters, behind-the-scenes realities of reality TV, and - of course - fashion tips, Tan gives his unique perspective on the happiness to be found in being yourself.

Fun & lighthearted BUT

So I enjoyed the story Tan told about his life. It was a fun listen and had me laughing out loud.

My only complaint when listening to the audiobook is the clips they added in after the fact has Tan’s voice sounding like he’s talking into a tin can. That was super distracting when listening to his story but good otherwise!

Fun listen and great narration

I was disappointed it was over! Tan is a joy to listen to and it was fun to learn about his story and some behind the scenes of Queer Eye casting.

Absolutely THE BEST!

I binged this memoir so hard. Tan France is an incredible narrator, and brings his memoir to the next level with his witty commentary making this memior feel like an intimate discussion between friends.

My only ONE complaint is that the recording studio kept switching up his recording booth, so you can definitely tell when a different recording section is dropped in. It sounds like he was recording in a closet and it distracts me from the overall story.
NOT on Tan at all, it was the recording studio that is to blame.

If you have seen Tan on his witty YouTube channel, expect the same here. He's so funny, and clever. This is definitely my favourite memior of the year.

5 stars! 🌟

Great Memoir!!

It was great to get to know Tan better through his personal story! I love the show and had to know more about Tan!! I absolutely love his fashion sense and how he has the ability to put people at ease. I love that he is so authentic and is still so grounded despite his fame. I loved how he was so real about “being famous” in this book. Gave me a new perspective!! Love the tips too! Need to listen to those again! Thank you Tan for sharing your story with the world!!
