Publisher's Summary

In this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller, after taking on a foreclosure case, defense attorney Mickey Haller fights to prove his client’s innocence—but first he must follow a trail of black market evidence to its sinister end

Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home.

Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too—and he's certain he's on the right trail.

Despite the danger and uncertainty, Haller mounts the best defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the verdict is in. Connelly proves again why he "may very well be the best novelist working in the United States today" (San Francisco Chronicle).

Different from the tv show.

I watched the new tv series on Netflix. I found the book and tv show to be different enough that both stories were interesting. didn't end how I thought it would.

Great Storyline

Mickey Hallett is a character that I find very entertaining. Not sure how close he is to a true LA lawyer, but he sure is very likeable.

Thrilling....... but

Great story as always got it totally wrong myself. My only criticism was that the end took forever to come. I was begging the recording to “hurry up and get to the end already”

Great work

I enjoyed this book and love Audible books to read me to sleep because I have become too lazy to actually read anymore.
Very entertaining. Looking forward to Mickey Haller's metamorphosis.

Wow!!

I read this on paper in 2011 and gave it 4 stars.

5 stars instead of 4 this time around!
I think age has given me perspective; a deeper respect for Haller. His love for his family, his struggle with his conscience and his epiphany at the end all impressed me more. It's not easy to write a GREAT novel, but Connelly shows it can be done!
Also: great narration!
