Publisher's Summary
Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.
From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order's Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

It is an age of exploration. Jedi travel the galaxy, expanding their understanding of the Force and all the worlds and beings connected by it. Meanwhile, the Republic, led by its two chancellors, works to unite worlds in an ever-growing community among near and distant stars. On the close-orbiting planets of Eiram and E’ronoh, the growing pains of a galaxy with limited resources but unlimited ambition are felt keenly. Story
On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

The Last Jedi is always fantastic
Not a ton added to the film’s plot, some deleted scenes re-inserted and some great insight into some scenes. That said The Last Jedi is an amazing story with some amazing twists and Jason Fry writes it beautifully.

Better than the movie
Okay, this film caused a lot of friction with fans declaring that Star Wars was dead. However after reading the novelization I have to admit I enjoyed it. In the book Rey doesn’t come across as a Mary Sue and you get to glimpse inside of various characters. There are a few expanded scenes and the ending is a tad different from that of the film. Bottom line, if you are a Star wArs fan, give it a try; you might just like it.

TLJ: The Great and Terrible
Performance by Marc excellent as always. The story is so nearly a masterpiece but falls short on its details.
Rey's character written perfectly well. The primary plot following her interactions with Luke was excellent, mostly. The secondary plot lines felt more like filler. New characters were decent at best. Returning supporting characters only develop slightly, and in such a way that makes their characters more generic, less complex.
Kylo was done well; his development was the highlight of the story. The best scenes were those he shared with Rey. Other characters like Phasma and Snoke feel wasted, sadly. Scenes with Snoke were done very well, but Snoke had even more to offer in my opinion. Phasma was barely in the story at all.
Luke's character was done very well, but ultimately underwhelming and confused. He began with very clever and interesting ideas about the nature of power, the danger of idol worship, and the universal unworthiness of legends. But the final scene of the book makes Luke Skywalker into a legendary Jedi Master idol once again. Were Luke's lessons the deranged rantings of a broken old man or not? The book can't seem to decide.
I believe Rey should take Luke's lessons to heart while still leading a rebellion and a new Jedi Order. Whereas the book seems to land saying Luke had been foolish in all his beliefs. Surely Rey was not wiser than Luke Skywalker. Surely Luke's points were not situational, to be discarded at the sight of a large laser canon or threatening Sith. Surely it's not simply that Luke was too imperfect to lead a Jedi Order properly but Rey is indeed perfect enough. My hope is that Rey understood Luke's wisdom rather than simply value the legend that miraculously saved the day.

shining shit
Jason Fry did a great job. I felt most movie scenes that felt forced or weird were not expanded on as much as the extra scenes beautifully written by mr Fry. Marc Thompson does an amazing performance as always.

Good performance of a weak story.
The story is weak but Fry does try to add character moments and more depth to a thin story. I enjoyed the added moments with Luke and added more to his story than what unfolded in the movie. The Rey force cave sequence is still confusing and vague. Still worth a listen but one I don't think I will come back to.

Not enough detail
Good listen if you've already seen the movie. Details of the scenes are needed to follow the story.
