Publisher's Summary

In the resplendence of William the Conqueror's London court, the lovely Saxon captive, Nicholaa, was forced to choose a husband from the assembled Norman nobles. She chose Royce, a baron warrior whose fierce demeanor could not conceal his chivalrous and tender heart. Resourceful, rebellious and utterly naive, Nicholaa vowed to bend Royce to her will, despite the whirlwind of feelings he aroused in her. Ferocious in battle, seasoned in passion, Royce was surprised by the depth of his emotion whenever he caressed his charming bride.

In a climate of utmost treachery, where Saxons still intrigued against their Norman invaders, Royce and Nicholaa revelled in their precious new love...a fervent bond soon to be disrupted by the call of blood, kin, and country!

Almost perfect...

Royce is one of my top Historic Romance heros. A satisfying listen always. Thank you, Julie Garwood!

Comfort Read

This is a comfort read for me, one that I return to with frequency since I originally read the book over 25 years ago. I love the Medieval setting and the main characters – most of all. Nicholaa is a strong, smart, cunning and a warrior when she has to be. Royce, is a warrior who learns that he has a soft heart – for the people he loves. They spark from the start and I enjoy their romance and what it took to get them to their HEA. I wish that we had gotten more of a view into their HEA, but I love this story none-the-less.

I listened to this on audio and found that the narrator did a good job.

The prize

The characters were interesting but I think this book is more suited to an older YA audience. However there are some things in the book that are not true. Couples making love seldom reach orgasm at the same time. In this book they do all of the time. Readers who have not made love will find themselves very disappointed.

Great Story, disappointing narration

I have read this book at least a dozen times. I downloaded the audiobook as I really enjoy the story but no longer have time to read as I have two small children.
the story is wonderful. I, however, struggled with the narrators interpretations of the mood and other choices with regards to narrators performance.

disappointed that the audiobook didn't live up to the story as written but still love the story
