Story
1950: Margaret Devonshire (Megs) is a 17-year-old student of mathematics and physics at Oxford University. When her beloved eight-year-old brother asks Megs if Narnia is real, logical Megs tells him it’s just a book for children, and certainly not true. Homebound due to his illness, and remaining fixated on his favorite books, George presses her to ask the author of the recently released novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe a question: “Where did Narnia come from?”

Poet, writer, and Instagram sensation Nikita Gill returns with a collection of fairytales poetically retold for a new generation of women. Traditional fairytales are rife with cliches and gender stereotypes: Beautiful, silent princesses; ugly, jealous, and bitter villainesses; girls who need rescuing; and men who take all the glory. Ava thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers' retreat in coastal Italy. At the retreat, she's not allowed to use her real name or reveal any personal information. Story
Harry Boyd, a hard-bitten refugee from failure in Toronto television, has returned to a small radio station in the Canadian North. There, in Yellowknife, in the summer of 1975, he falls in love with a voice on air, though the real woman, Dido Paris, is both a surprise and even more than he imagined. Dido and Harry are part of the cast of eccentric, utterly loveable characters who form an unlikely group at the station. Their loves and longings, their rivalries and entanglements, the stories of their pasts and what brought each of them to the North form the center.

Publisher's Summary
An international best seller!
A Library Reads pick and Indie Next Pick!
A trio of second-born daughters sets out on a whirlwind journey through the lush Italian countryside to break the family curse that says they’ll never find love, by New York Times best seller Lori Nelson Spielman, author of The Life List.
Since the day Filomena Fontana cast a curse upon her sister more than 200 years ago, not one second-born Fontana daughter has found lasting love. Some, like second-born Emilia, the happily single baker at her grandfather’s Brooklyn deli, claim it’s an odd coincidence. Others, like her sexy, desperate-for-love cousin Lucy, insist it’s a true hex. But both are bewildered when their great-aunt calls with an astounding proposition: If they accompany her to her homeland of Italy, Aunt Poppy vows she’ll meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her 80th birthday and break the Fontana Second-Daughter Curse once and for all.
Against the backdrop of wandering Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and enchanting Amalfi Coast villages, romance blooms, destinies are found, and family secrets are unearthed - secrets that could threaten the family far more than a centuries-old curse.
What the critics say
“A gorgeous blend of family, friendship, and love.” (Chanel Cleeton, New York Times best-selling author of When We Left Cuba)
“A glorious journey through Italy, and the heart...Filled with humor and wisdom, this is a celebration of life, and love.” (Yangsze Choo, New York Times best-selling author of The Night Tiger, a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick)
"Sparkling...Spielman brings Tuscany to vivid life and offers more than a few surprises along the way. Fans of An Affair to Remember, Under the Tuscan Sun, and the like will be enthralled." (Publishers Weekly)

Absolutely a must!
I laughed. I cried. I loved this story with its twists and turns, even though it isn’t a mystery novel. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I heard this younger narrator before, and I am glad the author used an older woman’s voice to speak the other female character in the book. It makes it easier to understand. Both are fairly dramatic, but that is why it is fun to listen to these types of well-written storylines. I will return listening to this book again. Two thumbs up!

Made me laugh, cry and get angry.
Love this book. Being first gen Italian, the author did her homework as this was so close to the inner look of an Italian household when nonna is around as it gets. LOL. Such a beautiful story, the author made me believe each character and always added a little more spice as it went along. Thank for writing this book, absolutely brilliant.
