Publisher's Summary
In the gripping sequel to Sleeping Giants, which was hailed by Pierce Brown as "a luminous conspiracy yarn...reminiscent of The Martian and World War Z", Sylvain Neuvel's innovative series about human-alien contact takes another giant step forward.
As a child Rose Franklin made an astonishing discovery: a giant metallic hand buried deep within the earth. As an adult she's dedicated her brilliant scientific career to solving the mystery that began that fateful day: Why was a titanic robot of unknown origin buried in pieces around the world? Years of investigation have produced intriguing answers - and even more perplexing questions. But the truth is closer now than ever before when a second robot, more massive than the first, materializes and lashes out with deadly force.
Now humankind faces a nightmare invasion scenario made real, as more colossal machines touch down across the globe. But Rose and her team at the Earth Defense Corps refuse to surrender. They can turn the tide if they can unlock the last secrets of an advanced alien technology. The greatest weapon humanity wields is knowledge in a do-or-die battle to inherit the Earth...and maybe even the stars.

not bad.
the story and performance were okay for the most part. I really didn't like the Eva performance. it might be enough for me not to finish the trilogy.

Narrating was mostly great but...
...why isn't the ten year old character narrated by a ten year old?! It was so distracting.

Enjoyed greatly.
With the exception of Eva's voice actor, the second instalment was great. Cannot wait to start with third book.

This is how an audiobook SHOULD be.
THIS audiobook is PURE listening GOLD. Seriously worth it! I own a physical copy as well but I find myself just drawn to the audio version.

A Great Sequel!
Content Warning: death, cloning, cohersion, forced birth
I really enjoyed this one and liked that it started with a time skip. I also literally laughed out loud that the one character is named after an neon genesis evangelion character. I still loved this as an audiobook and think this is made to be listened to. The full cast is amazing.
I loved the way this built upon the original story and gave us more worldbuilding, especially outside of the characters. I'm so glad that even when the world is supposed to "come together," there is still a lot of power plays with the government agencies. I think this is a pretty super realistic approach to what would happen.
I'm excited to see what happens in book three!

Eva's voice
Couldn't stand Eva. She was super annoying. She ruined the book. Whining all the time.

Voice acting is pretty bad.
I think, on the whole, this is a fantastic book read some really good VA’s. The problem may lie in the story itself with the dialogue very rigid. The way it’s read however is, unfortunate to say the least. Action scenes are really bad. I’m supposed to believe these people are moving around and doing things, but their voices hardly change to reflect it and I get the impression that it’s an a bad movie.
The one positive I found was the Parliament scene with background noise and shouting and immersion of the scene. Do that more but for everything (talking to future directors)
Also, picking a 30 year old to VA a 10 year old was a mistake.
