Dr. Hawkins begins this lecture by stating that our true purpose is to transcend from our original animal nature, otherwise known as the ego, to the realization of Divinity. He then guides us throughout this talk on how to allow the unfolding of this Truth. He explains our predicament: We have no idea where we came from, why we are here, who we are or where we are going. We are faced with the continuous uncertainty of life, everything we cling to is attacked and undermined by doubt within ourselves. He unveils the real cause of depression and teaches that biochemical changes in the brain are a consequence and not the cause. He reveals the basic cause of hopelessness and how to overcome it, along with sin, anger, guilt, self-hatred, and suicidal thoughts. When there is loss of meaning and self-worth, there is a need to create a new context.

Our belief that there is a personal "I" that is the cause of everything is the major block to realizing the Self.

Dr. Hawkins begins this lecture by saying that our spirit will be where it must be as a consequence of that which it is. Everything is exactly precisely where it has brought itself through its own decision. He states: "There is nobody paddling the canoe except yourself!" However, with the progression of consciousness, the "I" is less and less limited and ultimately becomes the source of Knowingness itself.
