Deanna Nikaido is a poet, visual artist, and Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner. She is the author of two collections of poetry, "Voice Like Water" and "Vibrating With Silence" and co-author of two children’s books, Animal Ark: Celebrating Our Wild World in Poetry and Pictures (National Geographic Children’s Books) with Newberry medalist Kwame Alexander and New York Times best selling author Mary Rand Hess, and "How to Write a Poem" with Kwame Alexander and Caldecott Honoree, Melissa Sweet (Harper Collins). She holds a degree in Illustration from Art Center College of Design, was a literacy coach for Bookinday, teaching poetry and book publication to elementary, middle, and high school students and was a Regional Coordinator in Maryland for the national recitation program, Poetry Out Loud.
