Why write a book? Such a prophetic question was offered to me as a gentle suggestion many years ago. When repeated to a Professor in Graduate school, where I was enrolled to expand on a developing talent for writing screenplays, a discipline I learned working in radio and television production on Madison Avenue after college for my Creative Director boss, Bill Z, Drina K. said "...a novel from a screenplay will give you added exposure to the powers in Hollywood." And what I liked was reading spy and thriller novels to the extent quickly becoming well versed in the field. At an advertising agency in NYC, I worked with a senior account executive who spent time as an OSS officer/spy during WW II in Europe. (The OSS was the early outfit, today known as the CIA). Dick B. gave me more information than I bargained for. So, began my part time writing career, of both novels and screenplays, that has, to date, created 12 original screenplays, (several as re-writes for Producers) and 7 novels, (currently) in the Jack Connolly Thriller Series. My recent novel, "Sign of the Cross." combines both fiction and non-fiction elements. My great grandfather, Dr Silas McBee was an Ambassador at Large for President Teddy Roosevelt and President W H Taft from 1906 to 1912. His territory was the Middle East, and its mixture of Christian religions. His trips generally ended with a trip to the Vatican and a personal one-on-one with "Saint" Pope Pious X. Dr McBee's book, "An Eirenic (Peaceful) Itinerary," published in 1911, is devoted to his meetings in the Middle East and former Soviet Union with religious leaders examining the unity of Christian Churches. His notes and secret inside information, papers once held by both my father and grandfather and now in storage at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, started my novel, Sign of the Cross, with 2000-year-old facts, then evolved into fiction, invented by me, thus creating the exciting "Sign of the Cross." Next on my busy schedule is to publish "audiobook" versions of all the novels as well as the Wine Tasting Journal noted on the home page. The 1st one will be "Wine Quest 95" as the manuscript for narration is finished. Since I spent many years prior to my writing career, as a booth announcer on FM Radio in Ohio, I will be credited as not just the author, but also the narrator. Narrating each of the currently 7 novels will take about 4 to 6 weeks for each novel. But I have committed to family and friends to make it all happen. As well as converting the next 5 novels, currently in "screenplay" format, (a/k/a/ manuscript outline) soon to be published on Kindle and paperback, followed by the corresponding audiobook. Whew! I need a knap! And I'm still young...sort of!
