Two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, enter Narnia’s magical world through a hidden door. Here they meet the lion Aslan, the ruler of the magical kingdom.

Years later, the four Pevensie children—Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan—enter this fantastic world through a closet. The four meet the White Witch Jadis, who has brought an eternal winter over the magical realm. With King Aslan, the children try to take back power and drive out Jadis. Welcome to The Chronicles of Narnia, one of the literary world’s most cherished fantasy series.

The Chronicles of Narnia book series: An intoxicatingly magical world

As the Pevensie children journey, things happen that none of them would have dared to dream of. Time also obeys other laws—only one year passes on Earth, while 1,300 years pass in the land of Narnia. And then, by accident, the four siblings ended up back in Narnia a year later. They must support Caspian, the young heir to the throne, and save Narnia from destruction.

The group travels together on the fantastic ship Dawn Treader to search for the seven missing lords, but these brave children are not spared from the underworld of Narnia. They must protect the lost prince, Caspian’s son, from great harm, and so begins the final battle for the fate of Narnia.

What is the best order for listening to the books in The Chronicles of Narnia?

The debate about the fantasy series’ chronological order is strong. Those wishing to listen to The Chronicles of Narnia according to the internal chronology of the narrative should choose this order:

  1. The Magician’s Nephew (1955)

  2. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)

  3. The Horse and His Boy (1954)

  4. Prince Caspian (1951)

  5. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952)

  6. The Silver Chair (1953)

  7. The Last Battle (1956)

However, the books’ original publication order was different. The published order is in line with author C. S. Lewis’s recommendation for the series, which he wrote to a reader in 1957. Because each of the Narnia novels can be enjoyed independently in terms of content, none of the possible sequences diminishes the listening pleasure.
