Story
Some children still spent summer hopping in Kent. Our class went camping in Ashdown Forest, a change from the bomb sites. We had the cubs and brownies where we earned proficiency badges in a number of skills. On Sundays, the Lido was a short bus ride away. More of our relations now came from Ireland and our Christmas parties were exciting. Passing the scholarship meant losing friends but gaining new ones. Among my friends in the streets of Paddington, this meant I was an outsider once more - a mixed blessed.

Bowed but unbroken, Miller survived because of his faith and lifelong devotion to his beloved wife of sixty-five years, a relationship that shines brightly in this distinctly American journey. With uncommon wisdom, intelligence, and humility, this member of the Greatest Generation spins a gripping tale through peace and war, work and family, love and redemption across ten tumultuous decades.

Story
Susan Zarif's memoir is a breathtaking journey from her traditional, small town American childhood to the University of Arizona in the 1960s where she met Salim, a Lebanese foreign student she later married. After graduation she went to Vietnam during the war from 1970-72. The war made such an impact on her that afterwards, she made her "Great Escape" and traveled down the International Hippy Trail from India to Istanbul to Thailand and Laos.

Story
There are many legends about the great Davy Crockett. In the movies people claim he could ride lightning, leap over rivers and fight wildcats with his bare hands. In the 2004 movie The Alamo, it is suggested that he was more cowardly than the legends, and if it was his choice, he would “slip over the wall” and escape. They also suggest that he only wore his famous coon skin caps because the actor who portrayed him did. Other stories claim he was an absolutely fearless warrior who loved a good fight.
