A believable fiction re the workings of a large police force in a large southern city. It could possibly be happening in urban centers but we have to believe it is not so. The characters were quickly identified and you knew who were the good guys and who were the policemen and women you would not want to deal with. Karin Slaughter wrote a very different novel this time but one that is totally worth reading. Janet Paddison
I'm a big fan of Karin Slaughter and wait anxiously for her next book. This book was a bit disappointing to me. I was hoping for something more like the history of the characters of Will Trent's circle. I found this book a bit dry in spots and wasn't as engaging as Slaughter's usual work. Still a good read, but not as great as her normal fare.
Disappointing. I have all Karin's books and have loved them all. If I had known this book was set back in the bad old days of women cops, I wouldn't have rushed to buy it. Of course we all admire the perseverance of these women but I thought Amanda's story was far more interesting and compelling. I really struggled to finish this book as I didn't really care much for the characters
