Another beautiful novel by Marie Force. Her love stories never leave me thinking how fortunate her characters are. She makes them very real. I can't wait to find out about Sydney and Luke! Thanks again Marie.
Joe has been in love with Janey forever, but he sits back and watches her with her childhood sweetheart. That is until David makes a huge mistake that Janey sees, when he sleeps with another woman. Janey thinks she is heartbroken and calls Joe to come and pick her up. Suddenly Janey sees Joe in another light and seduces him. After talking to her soon to be sister in-law wonders if she may have been a little bit in love with Joe all along, as he has always been there for her and supported her not matter what her decisions Janey realizes that Joe is truly in love with her and truly cares for her, although Janey says that she won’t say that she loves Joe until she is in love, loves him. There are lots of ups and down with Joe and Janey, including David dropping a bombshell to try to win Janey back. As always with Marie Force there is a happily ever after but she takes us on a great journey with the characters to get there.
A nice, quick story, told by the POV of the main characters, along with the POV of the characters in book 1. It was a nice, well rounded story.
The part I didn't like were the few pages dedicated to putting an intro for book 3, which had nothing to do with this one. It should have been put at the end of book 2 as a preface to the next book, rather than in the middle of the book 2's ending.
I read the whole McCarthys series last year and became a fan of Marie Force's writing. There was not a single book that didn't deserve at least a four. While I cannot remember all the details in this particular book I know that I loved it.Joe and Janey's story was sweet and captivating. I did purchase this book as part of a boxed set.
InterestIngly and loyally Janey McCarthy has loved the same man David for thirteen year and was engaged to be married the next year to him. She had been looking forward to being his wife and having four children with him. But when she goes on a surprise visit to Boston from Gansett Island and unfortunately she'd sees him having passionate sex with another woman in their bed, she turns and unseen runs away. Her love for David instantly dies. Was she stupid to trust David? And was a long distance romance ever going to work?
Then on the way back her car breaks down and she urgently calls on Joe to come and rescue her. Joe Cantrell is captain and owner of the Gansett Island ferry company. And he has secretly been in love with Janey for ever. A fact known by Janey's brother Mac, his best friend. But knowing she was engaged he wisely kept his distance and his feelings hidden.
However, when meeting Janey at her broken down car he realises catastrophically that she too is broken and crying. He takes her back to the house he built himself and tries to comfort her whilst he tells him the whole sordid story. Yet in her saddened conditions, she wants Joe to help her forget about David. And against his better judgment he is intimate with her, although he does says no several times. Sex with David was never like it is with Joe.
Janey begs Joe not to tell her brother Mac about her situation but he rings him anyway, Perhaps for self preservation. She agrees to stay with him for a few days because she cannot bear to face her family and the islandgossip. And he organises cover at the ferry so they could be together. What then happens? Does Joe finally tell Janey about his love for her. How does her family react to their news. Get this book and find out more...
This is the second book in the new series by Marie Force, if anything this book is even better than the first in my opinion. This story is about Janey McCarthy the only daughter of Linda and big Mac they also have four sons. Janey has been with her fiancé David for thirteen years he is away from Gansett Island in Boston as a doctor, so they do not see each other as often as Janey would like, although their wedding is planned for a years time, once David is fully qualified and moves back to the island. Joe Cantrell runs and owns the ferry service between the mainland and the island, he has been in love with Janey for as long as he can remember. His best friend Mac who is also Janey's oldest brother is the only other person who knows this. Then one evening while Joe is at home he gets a call from Janey she has always looked upon Joe as her fifth brother, her car has broken down but she sounds really upset, he knew that she had gone to Boston to surprise David for a visit and wondered what could have happened but he rushes to pick her up and find out what could have upset her. Once again the author has written a really wonderful love story, that will have you engrossed and unable to put down. Characters from the first book are also in this story we also get a chance to catch up on Mac and Maddie from the first book Maid for Love (The McCarthys of Gansett Island) also a great read. you could read this as a stand alone book but it would be better to read the first in the series before this one.

I really liked this second book in this series. I loved watching the romance unfold for Joe and Janey. Joe has been in love with Janey for a long time and never made his feelings known to Janey as she was engaged. After Janey catches her fiancé with someone else and heads back home Joe is the first person she turns too. I liked how they have always been friends and just take their relationship that bit further. I also liked the fact that you got to catch up with people from the previous book Maid for Love. Will defiantly being reading book 3.
I loved the 1st book and the 2nd hasn't disappointed me. A true love story and all the beloved Gansett Islanders. Joe has always loved Janey even though she was engaged to David. On finding David in bed with another woman, Janey phones the one person she can rely on Joe. He has waited years for David to make a mistake and his chance with Janey. A wedding, an irate mother, romance and a lot of fun in this book. Marie Force is a very talented writer and made these books come to life. It is a tragedy if you don't read and enjoy these books

The characters are very likeable which is the saving grace for this book. The storyline is a little weak and predictable, which I can just about forgive. Less happy to forgive the "vegetarian" heroine claiming to want salmon for dinner!!! This book was free and so was good value but I wouldn't pay much for it.
Have started to read the series. Others series get very boring after a few, but not these. All different and you get to catch up on characters from past books which is nice. Definitely worth getting but start at No. 1.
So nearly put off by the title of the first book and the cover but what a wonderful series of books, I have read all seven in this series and so looking forward to no. 8. I became so involved with the McCarthy family and their friends. These stories leave you with that feel good feeling, so I highly recommend all of them.
Another winner by Marie! Love the way the dramas unfold. They capture your imagination, keep you guessing, wondering and of course hoping , but are not drawn out indefinitely. Love the way the characters deal with challenges; speaking to each other getting their teeth into whatever needs to be done. Love Marie Force's style of writing.
This series of books is about people who live on Gansett island. Joe the ferry owner has loved a certain girl for years and her also being the sister of 4 or 5 of his best friends. She faces a heart breaking decision when she finds her fiance in a compromising position when she visits him out of the blue.
This is the second in an enchanting contemporary romance series by Marie Force. It was lovely to reconnect with the characters from Maid for Love and I enjoyed seeing the romance between Joe and Janey develop. Joe is the perfect hero and he had waited so long for her. I really wanted him to win her love. This series has a great small town setting--somewhere I would love to visit.
Joe Cantrell has loved his best friends sister Janey for years, only she's marrying someone else.. When everything falls apart, it's Joe she calls... Soon she realises she has feelings for him.. Joe's love for her, pulls at my heartstrings... I was rooting for them all the way... I'm loving this series!!!
Liked the stories of the people in the book. Could have done without too much of the sex in the book and more of the families lives but appreciate this is a series. Will probably get the first one and see if I will continue reading all of them.
