Really great book, very well written and easy to read, with hand-on practical advice. Sure, like other reviewers said some ideas may be common sense, but the way the author delivers and explains them and gives examples make it all worth it. The author does reference the Whole Brain Child book quite a bit (which I have not read) so I wonder if my experience was different, had I read that first. but overall I think I got my money's worth after reading it, so I do recommend it.
Absolutely love the authors. I've read both whole brain child and just started this book. I am already sucked in, I love it so far and I can't wait to try my new techniques of connecting on my child. Every parent needs both books.
I bought this book for my daughter at Xmas as she had borrowed it from the library and found that three weeks was not enough time! She decided she needed to keep this book handy at home for future reference. The writer(s) are well-known in their field for their expertise.
A great tool for any parent. The insight in this book is very helpful when searching for better ways to discipline children. I use this book with my own two children, as well as for my work as a registered psychotherapist.

Really great book that offers solid advice on how to cominucate healthily with children . I did find it repeated itself in areas but overall it is definitely a book I recommend . I'm a children's therapist and suggest this book and many Dan Siegel books to parents
My cousin recommended this book to me as she's read it and said it's very helpful in understanding what goes on in the little brains of our little ones and it's helped her to communicate with her son better without having to yell all the time.
My son is 6 and at times he can be very stubborn and gets angry easily too and not to forget those listening ears so I have purchased this book to see if it can help me improve the way I communicate with him as I find myself telling him off a lot at the moment.
I will update this review once I complete the book but for now it deserves the 5 stars from what my cousins has told me and looking at their sons behaviour I would have to agree it's done something right.
After attending many courses and working with children through the years I was impressed on how helpful I found this book. Perhaps it could have been the way it was written, I found it easy reading and could imagine events as described in the book. This book opened the door so to speak, for me the format of the book worked, many other books in the past had left me confused, they were hard to follow, dare I say un-encaging.
5.0 out of 5 starsOne of the best and most useful books on parenting

One of the best books on discipline I've ever read. It's practical, down to earth and research based. (As a teacher for more that 20 years and trainee play therapist I'm interested in the neuroscience). The authors understand both parent's and child's perspectives and help you to feel equipped without feeling a failure. Would recommend to all parents, especially those with strong willed children (like mine!)
