Unless you are Christian, a workaholic, or a mom, this book is not for you. I was really excited to read this book, I very quickly realized that this book is not for me. I skipped probably more than half the book. If you are single, non-Christian, and have a normal(ish) job, there are far better books out there for you.
Trying to sit here and figure out how to write a review that will accurately describe the power of this book....and I’m at a bit of a loss for the right words. This book is literally a game changer! No matter what you do, where you come from, what your life looks like.. you will gain so much from reading “Girl, Wash your Face”. Rachel’s honesty about the lies she once believed about herself completely resonates with the struggles we face as women. She has walked the same trenches as many of us are walking and gives direct, specific and tangible advice about ways to help and come through the other side as a better, stronger version of yourself. Her ability to motivate comes from true and honest experience. Guaranteed you will finish this book feeling encouraged, and motivated to start living towards a better you. Sometimes we need a kick start with our goals, a shift in our perspective or the encouragement to pick ourselves up and keep trying.. this is it folks!
Also, I will mention, that as a busy new mom... the audible version was amazing...having the book read to you by Rachel herself while having the freedom to fold the laundry, drive, or get ready in the morning, makes this book even more practical for those who find it hard to find the time to sit down and get into a good book!
Don’t know if I have ever said in my life I was truly grateful for a book.... but this one... without hesitation... I am.
This was not the book for me! To me the authors writing style read as a souther ditzy cheerleader, making any advice she had to offer difficult to take serious. I also found she contradicted herself throughout the book. What she has to offer may be helpful to those needing a cheerleader or someone to pick them up but I found her perspective on family life, religion and career not to my taste. *this book has many religious references and the author does express her feelings and thoughts, and as someone of different beliefs I found it very unrelatable.
I found myself reading Girl, Wash Your Face in the same manner that I would eat scrumptious chocolate cake - trying to pace myself so I could make it last longer and enjoy every morsel! Rachel Hollis’ honesty and vulnerability is beautiful and her positive messaging is inspirational in a way that makes readers adopt constructive changes instead of just pondering them.
As an avid reader I truly appreciated that she was able to share her inspirational stories while writing so meaningfully. There’s really something for everyone in Girl, Wash Your Face, and I especially loved that she was able to interlace hard-hitting difficult truths along with pee-your-pants funniness. This is an elevating, feel good sort of read and I loved it! So put it in your shopping cart already -- I promise you won't regret it!
"Don't let someone eles's opinion of you determine your worth." Just one of the many genius lines in this book.
Girl, Wash Your Face is a funny, real and humbling set of stories that hit home the point that anything is possible, for anyone, IF you're willing to go for it. Rachel has opened herself up completely, describing (very real and sometimes painful) events of her life that have helped her become the successful woman (wife, mom, friend, entrepreneur) she is today. The honesty with which it's written is one of my favorite things about this book, helping the reader realize they are not alone in believing untruths about themselves that might be holding them back from becoming the person they were meant to be.
If you feel like it's time for a change in any aspect of your life (relationships, friends, personal/professional growth, family, and more!), this book is a must. Not only will it make you determined to make those much-needed changes, you'll be dying laughing as you read it!
This book was Amazing! I got the audio book first and listened to it twice in one week! I gave a copy to a girlfriend who read it within a week and then bought us tickets to made for more on Aug 2nd! I now have two copies on order as I stock my closet for Christmas gifts for my girlfriends... meaning planning on buying a few more lol. So true, funny and inspirational!
Reading this book will feel like that therapeutic, heart to heart, conversation with your best friend. I love that this book brings to light the many lies and struggles ALL of us women live. Rachel’s approach is real, funny and her personal stories make it all down to earth. Each chapter is coated with tangible advice but best of all a strong dose of encouragement, confidence, and realization that we were each made for so much more and that we have the strength inside ourselves to create the outcome that we desire. I have never demolished a book so fast and will never stop recommending it to the women around me.
My goodness I was sucked in due to the hype of this book. OMG, NO. Rachel is so entitled and preachy and comes across as exactly the kind of person I detest. Everything in the book was "me me me!!!" and offered no insight to real problems. This book made me irrationally angry, which I think is the exact opposite of what it was intended to do.
Like so many other reviewers, I wanted to love it... So many of my friends have nothing but praises for the book, so I bought it. I’ve been disappointed from the start. I ended up feeling so annoyed that I wasn’t able to finish the book. I felt like it was too much “me me me” and humble bragging, as another reviewer pointed out.

Rachel Hollis really disappointed me with this book. Her theology is ridden with self-righteousness, and she vastly underrates the problem of sin. The attention this book has received is saddening because I do not think the truth of the gospel is stood for in these chapters.

Girl, Wash Your Face has changed my life, yes I realise how dramatic that sounds. But it's true! I'm 37 and feel like I've just learnt the skills I need to make my life the best it can possibly be, thanks to this book. I have an illness that leaves me stuck in bed, in pain, almost every day. I find audiobooks relax me and help me sleep. I came across Girl, Wash Your Face and thought well here goes, another self help book, trying to make me feel better about myself. How wrong could I be... I immediately felt Rachel's warm, kindhearted words were written for ME. It was if she had come over for a girly chat. Rachel has a way of making you feel like you've been friends forever. Although she is so sweet she equally won't take any excuses. And isn't that honestly what we all need, someone who is there with great advice but won't take any of your bs. No excuses about feeling lazy, you have to go out and chase your dreams. I believe that the true genius of this book is that the author wrote it because she truly wants to help other women. Rachel Hollis honestly cares about me and you. She wants us to live our lives to its full potential. And she is so passionate about empowering women. This passion cannot help but motivate you to make the changes in your life to be who you want to be. The book made me realise that although the path I'm on is not the one I originally wanted, I can still be happy! I have been just existing for a long time and now I'm starting to live life again. It's as if Rachel came into my house and pulled me out of bed. I feel as if she's one of my closest friends and said "come on, stop feeling sorry for yourself, get up and start being the best version of you that you can be!" I have been through a lot in life but it doesn't mean I should just give up. I can still have hopes and dreams, I just need to adjust them a little. And as Rachel says "no-one cares about your dreams as much as you do." I now have the paper back of Girl, Wash Your Face now too and I've read it 3 times, I feel like I learn something new every time. Rachel teaches you life skills to help you achieve whatever it is that you dream of. The book is not only informative but my god is it funny. Rachel is so witty and will have you laughing at her funny stories. I have recommended this book to my friends who have also fallen in love with it. I bought a copy yesterday for my cousins birthday and I can't wait to talk to her about it. It's one of those reads that you just want to share with everyone. It's the holy grail for all women, in all walks of life. Because the underlying message is the same for all of us, you deserve to be happy!!! So I'll say it again... Girl, Wash Your Face has changed my life. Rachel Hollis, I just want to say Thank You! ❤️ xxx

I do actually recommend the audiobook version because you really feel the impact of this book, when read by Rachel Hollis herself. But if you aren't in a place to listen, I think EVERY woman needs to read this book. Over and over and over! I have read or listened to it about 5 times now. I know I need these words repeated and engraved in my brain to improve my life, to reset my brain and how i talk to myself, to appreciate what I have, and get the tough talk I need and deserve. Rachel feels like your best friend and you love her, even when her message is tough to swallow. But she's right. And she tells it like it is. I have had the opportunity to see her present to a group and she's genuine and funny and lovable - and one tough cookie! You NEED her!
Couldn’t finish this book. Rambling humblebrag with lots of cliche advice. Annoyed by her casual use of scripture and shallow references to God. Tone was overly familiar (enough with the ya’lls and girlfriends already), especially considering her lack of vulnerability despite claims to the contrary. Wish I could get my money back, but sadly I bought the Kindle version.
For real, if you do anything for yourself in 2018, read this book!
Reading GWYF changed my life! You are probably thinking this girl is crazy, sure maybe a little, but this book gave me the fire I needed to change my way of thinking which transformed my life. Through Rachel's words you are able to change the way you think and ultimately change your actions. Throughout the book she shares lies she believed about herself and how she overcame her own struggles. Now not all these lies will apply to you, but as women I can imagine most can relate to some if not all of them.
After reading this book I felt so empowered to follow my dreams and ultimately live the life I deserve to live. You only get one chance to live this life and this book reminded me to take control of my destiny and be the best version of myself.
I have recommended this book to every woman I know, I have gifted it multiple times and have seen the way the women's lives around me have been transformed. This is more than a self help book, it's a book that will help you get back to the person you weren't meant to be.
Rachel is honest, forthright and isn't afraid to share her own struggles to help others overcome theirs. I am so grateful I found this book and I recommend you read it too!

Changed my life. That sounds so cliche right? But seriously. When I ordered this book, I got it on audio book as a treat for my vacation. I took my 4 kids and myself camping...all by myself without my husband. Totes crazy. While they swam, I sat in the sun and enjoyed this nugget of amazingness. I found myself mesmerized with her knowledge, enthusiasm and humility. Her ability to tell her story, her real, raw, true stories had me on my knees in awe. I have been in the process of writing a book and a blog, too scared to take myself seriously. Because of this book, and this woman ability to make me feel like she is my own personal cheerleader, I have started to heal and tackle my dreams. I am not hitting publish on my blog, and currently in editing phase of my book. Because of Ms. Hollis and her contagious charisma, I am chasing my own dreams.

First.. I would like to address what a few of the negative reviews I've skimmed through have claimed.. things like "Rachel Hollis is entitled" and "hasn't experienced real life proplems" and let's not forget the "she's privileged" My response (not that anyone's asking..) to those people is I don't think they actually read the book or have retained information that they have read. She had a rough childhood, which included a dysfunctional family (relatable) and her brother committed suicide while she was teenager ( tragedy) this sounds far from "she has had an easy privillaged life" Rachel has remade herself. That's why she is where she is now. Now onto my review... This book has fallen in my life at the right time. I wish I knew about it sooner. Rachel writes like she's speaking to me. These words is what I need to hear in the chapter of life I'm in. I'm using this as my guide for successful change in horrible habits. Habits I hate. Habits I feel have changed my life. I don't want to look in a mirror and hate the person in my reflection. I am the one and only person who can change me. There's many ways to get a wake up call... for me this book was IT! Thankful for a woman like Rachel Hollis to put it all out on the line to make a change.

I was exactly like Dave in the sense that I never believed or wanted to partake in self-development. I thought only “broken” people needed it. I also kept telling myself that I wasn’t “broken.” However, I made a go out on the limb decision to join Rachel’s Last 90 Days challenge because the last six months had been extremely trying for me. My mother was diagnosed with a rare thyroid cancer & I lost a very dear friend who I had grown up with. We were meant to watch each other continue to grow up & now we wouldn’t. I was having a really hard time & I thought I needed something to change my life. This challenge lead me to this book & this book didn’t change my life, but it made ME change it. Because of this book, I now know that I’m the one in control & these personal accounts & life experiences that lie between the pages are extremely relatable. I will sell this book to anyone because I truly believe in its power & uplifting humor. This human has strung all the words I needed to hear together & called it Girl, Wash Your Face. I believe anyone can find something that they can relate to in this book. If someone comes to me about weight loss, dreams, goals, or even just every day issues then I tell them they need to read this book because they will come out with exactly what they need & then some. This book is a tool that will help you change your life for the better.

Really enjoyed this book. A few things worth mentioning: Mothers will get more out of it than those without children. If you are child-less, don’t let that scare you away from reading this book.
Another thing worth mentioning is that some of what then Author mention is religious. If you are not religious this may or may not bother you. Again, don’t let that scare you away from reading this book.
The book is very easy to read, the chapters are well organized, and I love the authors writing style. Buy this book and give it to your sister, your friend, your mother, your daughter. This is a great book for ANY woman.
I don't know why I bought this book as it isn't something I'd usually go for. It is different but I really did enjoy it.
I found it to be motivating and inspiring with Christianity and motherhood thrown in. I didn't find either themes make the book any less for me as I consider myself more spiritual and I'm not a mom.
Rachel writes as I imagine her to speak and that's what I really enjoyed about the book. It felt like a chat to me.
I could relate to some of the lies that forms the theme for each chapter. She speaks about being a woman, mom and person; to sometimes the trash we tell ourselves and believe. A great example of this is not keeping promises to ourselves. That was a chapter that hit home for me big time!
If you're looking for a pick me up, this might be something you want to try.

Returning this book. It's advertised as "Christian", but is nothing more than a self centered world view exchanging God's truths for lies; that everything you need is found in you and not Jesus. I was rooting for this gal and this book because her promo video sold it as something so different. Not the case. I should have read these one star reviews first. Disappointing.
