I like the book, was a fast read. Insta love which was a little unbelievable with the storyline. The ending was really fast and unexpected. The author could have tied up the loose ends in the story. I actually turned the page expecting the book to continue. Therefore I only gave it 3 stars
What a fresh, fun, contemporary romance! I expected a beach read and this book delivered, but it also offered much more. So many books in this genre have gotten stale or too focused on hokey, contrived plots with cardboard characters. Nick and Sophie are multi-dimensional.
I was impressed with Sophie's courage to make a new start after getting jilted at the altar. She's spunky, funny, and you root for her to learn to trust herself again and to achieve her dreams.
Nick is a hunky hero you cheer for all the way. He's earned the reputation as the "Player of Laguna," but he's got a valid reason for his unwillingness to commit. Like many men, he compartmentalizes his feelings after a tragic loss and focuses all his energy on his architecture career. Until Sophie rents a cottage on his property. Their chemistry is steamy.
Claire Marti is a new author to watch. Her writing is excellent, the story flows well and I love her humor. You won't be able to put this book down. I can't wait for the next two books in the series.
3,0 sur 5 étoilesGood story, but could have been much better with a little tweaking.

I liked this story, but I also felt like this could have gone from a good read to a fabulous one, with just a few minor tweaks. The beginning was so much fun and very captivating. The characters began to really grow on me more and more. Soon after that we were introduced to some really wonderful secondary characters along the way, and I felt that they really enhance the story, by ten fold.
Here's my problem though.... The ending felt a little too abrupt, leaving the reader with a lot of unanswered questions, and a lot of loose ends that could have been tied up nicely if only the author would've add a short, but precise epilogue at the end. As for me; I really would have loved to see what became of Sofias's ex, and Nick's assistant, Heather. I'm also curious to find out what was going on between Nick's sister and his best friends. And the biggest question of all for me, was whether or not Sofia's book got published, and what all the doubter's in her life thought about it, if it had been a success.. See my dilemma?
Over all I would give this a 3.5 star rating, only because of the things I mentioned up above.
Sophie moves to Laguna after being jilted by a cheating fiance. She embarks on her desire to become a writer. As she begins to rebuild her life, she meets a great guy (Nick) that slowly finds his way into her heart. She learns to trust and love again. Nick has never met a woman like Sophie. Their chemistry is like nothing he's experienced before. A misunderstanding makes him turn away from Sophie, only to realize that he may have overacted out of fear of getting hurt. I really enjoyed this book. The ending made me smile.
Second Chance in Laguna is a great romantic story. Sophie and Nick are characters you can root for and be inspired by: they’re gorgeous, as befits most romantic novels, yet the fears that threaten to override their strongest desires make them into flesh-and-blood people. I’m impressed by the fact that this is Claire Marti’s debut novel; she writes with the confident ease of a natural-born writer. Fast-paced, funny, moving and satisfying, Second Chance in Laguna is a terrific read that will likely have you eagerly anticipating the author’s upcoming books – I know I am!
Although I don’t usually read a lot of romance novels, this one called to me because of my love for cats, for yoga and of the beach. The characters were very likable, the writing style was real and I felt the emotions strongly of the main couple, I was rooting for them all along. I look forward to getting to know the next couple, in the next book, they were minor characters in this book!
