3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Tale, Spoiled by Poor Use of Language

This is the third book that I have read in this genre, from this author. He specialises in tales centred on literary figures from the past, and he tells a good story.

But - yet another American author who is too lazy to write in language appropriate to the historical period and setting that he would like to portray. I can assure Mr Masello that Victorian Irishmen (such as Bram Stoker) did NOT end sentences with "yet" or "already" in the manner of a Bronx Jew!

There are, regrettably, quite a few of these anachronisms that really, really, jar on the sensitivities of European readers.

If you are going to write about another part of the world, and about it's history, for Heaven's sake, do a bit of research and get it right. If that is too much trouble, then stick to inventing tales about U.S. authors, please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable

One of the pleasures of Robert Masello's books is the date he takes with his research, going to some lengths to include factual material in his books. This one was no exception and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good tale and who interested in the history of the early part of the last century.

3.0 out of 5 stars Went on a bit

This would have got 4 stars if it had ended earlier.
There was a natural ending point but it went on for another 20%.
And then started to get a little tedious.
Still not bad overall
