"He really meant it this time...."- thus begins the prologue. We will revisit this man again and again as, detail by tantalizing detail of his tragic life is revealed.
Next chapter: The Advert "Gorgeous double room to let to single person....in wonderful large house in North London...."
Keep reading this book, but hang on, because you are in for a thrilling ride.
This wonderful tale is told through the eyes of Lisa, a twenty-something year old woman who rents the aforementioned room. Lisa soon discovers that something dreadful has happened in this room, and she becomes obsessed with finding out what it was.
I like Lisa, and I have compassion for her. She sees herself as a misfit, and at one time describes herself as "a haunting scarecrow with short hair and bulging, big eyes." She is an only child of loving but overly protective parents. Her only friend seems to be an ex boyfriend, Alex, who, despite breaking up with her, is a remarkablely good friend. Something happened to Lisa at her 5th birthday, and, the experience was so terrible she is left with deep emotional and physical scars, but no memory of her life up to and including that date.
"psychological thriller" novels are my favorite genre, and this is one of the best ones I have ever read.
