I absolutely love the chemistry between Nick and Mina. The humor and wit between them is great, and you cant help but follow along for the ride. Everyone deserves to find love like this...my new favorite book boyfriend!
Hold Me Today by Maria Luis is the first book in her Put A Ring On It series. While the series books can standalone, I picked this up because I wanted to start at the beginning and this was it. Told in dual POV between Mina and Nick this book started out somewhere I wasn't expecting - the tail end of a reality dating show. But this gave us a great introduction to one of the main characters from this book and to the other characters featured in other upcoming books in this series (Kiss Me Tonight & Love Me Tomorrow).
Returning to his home in Boston and home Nick faces the fallout from the dating show and runs into his sister's best friend at a wedding. Mina has a request and a dilemma and she needs Nick's help. The last person she wanted to ask for help but her lifelong dream hangs in the balance and only his skill set will save it.
Frenemies to friends to lovers - to their very own Happily Ever After was a journey beautifully crafted in this story and I'm excited to read more from this author! Enjoy!
Wow! Maria Luis writes damn fine books. The storyline is well-written, humorous, with drama, steam, sweetness and great developed characters. The H is seriously sexy and the older brother to the h"s best friend. The h was in the unenviable position of being spotted naked and is reckless enough to entertain the notion of being his fake girlfriend. As if that will go as planned!! What can I say other than Maria Luis' books are entertaining, interesting, humorous, engaging and addictive. I've become a junkie to her books! I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish; no cheating, great male/female leads and full of humour. This couple loved hard and the quotes used were deep and meaningful. A beautiful love story with a powerful ending; filed with family, love, strength and success!! This is my ideal male that I wish I could meet..

Maria never disappoints, she is one great writer. This book has it all and if you need to be uplifted then read this and after you will be searching for all her other books because they are all so so good.
I read this book via KU and loved it so much, went ahead and bought it! I normally wait for a good deal to happen, but just couldn't be bothered to wait in this case! This is my 1st book by Maria Luis and I'm really glad I found her. It's one of the best 'brother - sister's best friend' romance books I've read, atleast for me! First of all the cover is incredibly sexy, the hero Nick, as an another reviewer wrote, is absolutely swoon worthy (sigh!) and the heroine is a fighter and absolutely kick ass! I love it when the heroine is a tough cookie and this one has courage and sass in spades. I loved everything about her, even her name, Ermione! The Greek family mayhem, the sizzling attraction between the two, the supporting characters - just loved and enjoyed everything about this book! Lately, thanks to KU I've found some authors who seem to excel at turning a romantic/hot scene into a laugh riot. Maria Luis is one of them. Just couldn't stop laughing at the staircase-tryst-aftermath scene! Sometimes I wonder if the writers have come across personal experiences to be able to transform the tone of a scene so well??!! (Lol!!) Eager to read the next 2 books in this series - the 2nd one thankfully is coming out soon! Will be looking forward to that one :)
Mina has loved Nick all her life. He is her best friend’s brother and has always been at the centre of her life dream. Nick has always kept his distance from Mina due to his sister, and has always protected her from afar during their younger days. Now she needs his help and he has a proposition for her. This was a truly lovely story and these two are such heart-warming characters. Great story, well written and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
You won’t want to put this book down. Nick & Mina are the best of frenemies and it makes for a thoroughly enjoyable read. There are moments of sadness but they just make it all the sweeter when things go right.
5.0 out of 5 stars“Thank You . . . For Making Me Feel Like I’m Finally Home.”

After writing over 700 book reviews in less than two years, it gets harder and harder to be creative; however, Luis is one author who continues to excite my reader's heart, suck me into her stories, and effortlessly has me in love with her characters before I even realize it. My problem with her books is my inadequacy to do them justice in a review. Her skills as a storyteller continue to grow as she sharpens her wit, perfects her pacing, and pours more of herself into her work. And this book? This book is easily the pinnacle of her work to date. There is so much MORE in this book! More impeccably timed humor, more perfected imperfections of authentic characters who steal the reader's heart, more soul-deep connections between the characters and the reader, and more complex, deep emotion. And steam. We can always count on Luis for just the right amount of fun, smexy times! So whatever term you prefer, “This book is everything,” or “This one has all the feels,” Hold Me Today is THAT book.
Where do I even begin with these two characters? Nick is the swoon-worthy alpha that every girl wants, but he's such a darn nice guy with a big heart and a sweetly vulnerable side that is oh, so delicious as it's revealed. And Mina, OMGee, Mina. This girl has layers for days and so many contradictions. She’s a tough, driven over-achiever, yet she’s been searching all her life for a place to belong. She's had challenges all of her life and she's fought and scraped for every millimeter of success. Is it wrong that I have a girl crush on her? She is easily my favorite Luis heroine, because there’s just something about a girl who fights every day to overcome challenges and negativity and is successful in spite of it. Then, throw in a happily ever after with the guy who was made for her, the one who knows her, loves her imperfections, and fits her like no other – my heart is done. Wrecked. Destroyed. And I couldn’t be happier!
Nick is Mina's best friend's older brother, and they’ve know each other forever. For most of those years she was simply his sister's friend and a thorn in his side, but he sees things in a different light when he agrees to renovate her hair salon and they spend more time together. And did I mention she agrees to be his “fake" girlfriend to keep the media off his trail after the whole “Put a Ring On It" debacle? Hindsight being 20/20, Nick realizes that, at every pivotal point in his life, Mina has been there offering comfort and support but asking nothing in return. A part of me wishes they had seen the light sooner, but destiny has a way of playing out so we learn the life lessons we need in order to make us ready for the next chapter of life. Sometimes when I read a book, I think of how I would have written things differently, but Luis got Nick and Mina's story exactly right, every step of the way. This is perfection, pure and utter perfection.
This is the first book in the Put a Ring On It series, and Luis has set the series up in such a way that I’m insanely excited about what is to come! Not only am I completely in love with Nick and Mina and can’t wait to see them again, but there are hints of some wickedly wonderful things to come with both Dominic and Owen's stories. If you like romantic comedy (and who doesn’t?) you'll definitely want to grab this one and start reading ASAP. Humor, heat, heart, and an author pouring her soul into the characters and their story. What's not to love? This one deserves all of the stars in the night!

Maria Luis has written another amazing story! With a hero who has a huge heart and a heroine with big dreams, this is a romance that will definitely be one of my top reads of the year. (And yes, I know it's only mid-January.)
Nick and Mina have known each other for years. He is her best friend's older brother after all. The chemistry between them is apparent from the very beginning, even when they are pushing the other's buttons. While romance is, of course, a key plot point, both Mina and Nick are characters you grow to love and root for even outside of a relationship.
I love Maria's writing style. She infuses the story with humor without being over the top, and I love the hints at what is to come in future books in the series!
5.0 out of 5 starsAnother awesome book by Maria Luis!!

I can't tell you how many, many books I have on my Kindle that I have started to read, and really tried to stay with it, but in the end I just can't finish them. That is NOT the case with Maria Luis!! Every single book that she has written has grabbed me from the first page all the way to the last. She is such a gifted writer, and her stories and characters have so much heart. Nick and Ermione (aka Mina), have known each other since they were in elementary school. Their relationship has always been a love/hate kind of thing. This is the story of their journey to really get to know each other, to share secrets and hopes and dreams, and to finally realize that they were meant to be together. Maria, you knocked it out of the park, again!!!!
5.0 out of 5 starsTerrific fun, swoony, steam and full of heart

Frenemies, Fake relationship, Sibling's bestfriend all good things for me. Nick and Mina couldn't be more opposite in nature and on paper. Besides knowing each other's families and growing up together. There are thing's they don't really know about the other. Watching that develop between them was so delicious. The banter and bickering, sexual tension and chemistry, all with a Greek Fat Wedding feel.
When the spark ignites it goes full blast. All the foreplay was the start, they got me all swoony. Nick is self made and while he's nice and shy, good natured, his growlier side is one Mina sets free. It was a joy to watch them finally admit all the years to torturing the other just meant hidden feelings. The humor injected qt the right moments made it oh so much more delicious. They slowly learned more about the other than they originally thought which waa refreshing, they way they became more was sweet and meaningful.
Nick and Mina were opposites that worked, it balanced out in a way. They grew into their new relationship. Even if they drew other sides from the other, more than the hard working good guy and flighty impulsive woman. I like how Maria Luis showed that, the layered side to her characters. She makes her stories hook you in with quirky humor, refreshing characters and interesting plots, versatile author that grabs you. This one is a different than the normal theme you see about this topic on dating shows. Plus that nod on cultural dissonance is relatable.
Fans of Dominic will be happy to note he makes a bigger cameo here and hints the next book in yhis new series is his. I can't wait!
This was my first book by Maria Luis and WOW! Unfortunately I was on a trip when I started it and had to do things like sightseeing, eating out, going to concerts when all I wanted to do was hole up with this book. The tension in Mina and Nick’s lifelong relationship evolves into sexual tension that keeps the reader on edge. I am in awe of the inspiration and talent it takes to write such delightful dialogue, thoughts and action that bring this story together. I’ll admit that there were a couple of times that I got teary while reading this which is not at all the norm for me. I am a romantic suspense fan and rarely venture into contemporary romance but this wasn’t schmaltzy, sweet or shallow. Instead the story was intriguing with depth and substance that unfalteringly grabbed my attention. For a rewarding way to spend your time, read this book!
Maria Luis is a skilled storyteller—she proves time and again just how true this statement is. Yet, when I started reading Hold Me Today, I was blown away by the story that unfolded. This book is everything a romance should be--its sexy as hell, exquisitely entertaining, and deeply moving. I couldn’t put it down. As much as I have loved previously works by Maria, there was something unmistakably ‘more’ to her latest release. Hold Me Today is without a doubt my favorite book by the author and I am literally beside myself waiting for the second book in the Put A Ring On It series. With as much as I read—nearly a book a day—Maria Luis is in a league of her own when it comes to romances that live on with me after I read them. There is just something so effortlessly entertaining about them. And they suck you in and make you fall in-love again and again.
I straight up cornered that man in an elevator and proceeded to bust his balls like I was back in kindergarten—when kicking a guy you like in the nuts was the surefire way to announce the two of you were destined for marriage.
Hold Me Today is a multicultural, contemporary romance. Additionally, this dual perspective romance falls under the best friend’s brother subgenre which happens to be a favorite of mine, much like Maria Luis herself. While reading my heart soared, I cried, and even snort-laughed repeatedly. Although not a traditional romcom, Maria Luis nonetheless made the relationship between Nick and Mina every bit as hilarious as she did sexy. And boy oh boy, was this one seXXXy! 😉 is there anything hotter than a dirty talker?! Right now, I am not so sure…🔥 Maria masterfully wove together a story that flowed perfectly and sucked me in completely. While Nick was quiet, broody, sexy and even stoic, Mina is a loud, outgoing, feisty overachiever… And she loves nothing more than she does busting Nick’s balls—which isn’t hard to do since she’s known him almost all her life. Their chemistry was undeniable. Mina’s character depth made her my favorite female protagonists that Maria has written to date. Hold Me Today has captured my heart on every level. If you are in the mood for a sexy, dirty talker and a complex heroine, a romance that will leave you swooning long after you read those final words, one that’s sweet, witty and will completely consume you? Well, look no farther, because Hold Me Today is all those things!
Maria Luis has done it again. Hold Me Today, the first book in Put A Ring On It series, is a fantastic book that will take you on a roller coaster ride. Nick and Mina have known each other for years. She’s had a crush on him for most of that time, but nothing has ever happened. Please do yourself a favor and grab your copy and see what changes to bring them closer together. I absolutely loved the banter between these two characters. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say, Maria Luis sure has a way of writing some steamy scenes.
