I was thrilled when I found out Melanie was adding to our BAM boys. Although, Hal doesn’t work directly with BAM, he’s a solicitor who has worked for Van. If you haven’t read a Melanie Moreland book, you are in for a treat. Once you read one, you can’t not stop til you’ve read them all and Melanie will be your favourite author. This story was a sweet addition to the Bam series. Halton (Hal) is a lawyer friend of BAM, works hard and never lies. We first met Hal in Van's book. He is a strong advocate for others but he does not tolerate lies, ever. Hal’s one real rival is another lawyer, Hutchings, who will get as dirty as he has to, to win any case. Then Fiona (Fee) Hutchings comes calling. Right away Hal is on guard, after all this is the wife of his rival - enemy. As it turns out, Fee is a good woman, was a good wife, u til her husband, cheats and then throws her out and now she’s come to Hal, her husband’s sworn enemy for a divorce.
I swear Melanie has a way of just sneaking characters into my heart. Nobody quite does this type of fluff like her. Sweet yet real....I can't get enough of her writing style, her sincere characters and the realistic plots with just enough fantasy to fulfill me in every way.
Where do I even begin? I devoured this book in one day - Melanie Moreland's work has that effect on me. She knows how to damage her heroes enough to make me fall for them just as quickly as the heroine does and Halton easily became my new favourite... Until the next hero!
This is Book 6 of the Vested Interest Series by Melanie Moreland and let me tell you it just keeps getting better and better.
Halton and Fiona May have just taken the top spot for fave couples in the series. Both with emotional baggage the pair find friendship and a mutual understanding with each other. I love how big Fiona’s heart is as well as her patience despite al the problems she’s endured. Halton, serious and always brooding opened up to Fiona. He was sexy and sweet with a side of alpha. I love it. Oh my, that scene, you know what I’m talking about if you’ve read the book. I floved it!! Who needs a girls night out when you have Hal at home!?
I love how in each book at least 1 character from the previous series is mentioned. In this case many made a cameo and I loved every minute of it. Bravo Melanie! This book is outstanding and will have your readers falling in love!
I would never throw liquor in the face of a woman, no matter what she had done. I had class and manners. And I wouldn’t want to waste the scotch.
Time in the world of the law has a totally different meaning. Urgent means I’ll get to it when convenient. As soon as possible could be next week or next month. If a lawyer says he’ll “get right back to you,” grab a coffee. Maybe a sandwich. You’re going to wait a while.
I think there is good in everyone… In fact, I’d go as far as to say, there is a little bit of perfection in everyone.
I am enamored with the sexy men of BAM, and although Halton isn’t actually part of the BAM organization, he is BAM adjacent and sexy and successful enough to be an honorary member. All of Melanie Moreland’s books are class acts with the perfect balance and emotional tone in her emotive storylines, as well as interesting and engaging character and plot development, steamy sensuality, humor, flawed yet lovable heroes, odious baddies to despise, and a heart squeezing romance. I hope she continues with BAM until the founders are old enough for retirement.

Melanie has a nack of writing stories which draw you in completely. Halton is another of these, book 6 in the Vested Interest series. It's a stand alone story so don't panic if you haven't read books 1 through 5, it won't stop you enjoying this story. Hal is a hot lawyer, who has devoted his life to family law, helping those who can't help themselves, but doesn't believe love is for him or that he had anything to offer in the long term. Sad really as he has so much to give of only he realised. Enter Fiona (Fee) Hutchings, the abandoned wife of his biggest adversary, beautiful but emotionally fragile due to the psychological abuse she has endured. Fee is a gentle soul who fell for the wrong man, but still believes in true love and happiness. Will taking on Fee's case bring Hal out of his self imposed exile from the world. This is an emotionally charged story of salvation and awakening, beautifully written and hard to put down.

Love BAM and all the entwined lives and love from the first to the last. One of my favourite, was when I realized BAM would be working with Richard from the Gavin Group, I screamed so loudly clapping and jumping, ecstatic. Great work. I am aforeverfan.
Book 6 in the Vested Interest series, This is an auto 1-click author for me, and I’ve been a fan of the series from the start. Note it’s not necessary to have read the earlier books (though I certainly recommend them), as while there are brief appearances by characters from those books here, you don’t need the background of their stories to enjoy this.
I usually take notes as I read but I was so invested (see what I did there?) in Hal and Fee, I didn’t want to put the book down, lol. While there were some twists to the plot, there were also some turns I found a little predictable, but I didn’t mind because it was the relationships and emotions that kept me engaged in the story. Hal and Fee have both been hurt by people who should have loved and cherished them, and I loved how they each find something in the other that they’ve been missing.
I don’t remember much about Halton from the earlier books so I was surprised at how quickly he pulled me in here. It made me laugh when everyone but Hal could see the writing on the wall in spite of all his protests that he was incapable of love. And the emotional payback when Hal finally gets his head on straight? It’s not only exactly what I want and expect from this author, it’s what I wish every author I read was capable of delivering.
Besides the characters from the earlier books, there were several additional secondary characters that added to the story. In particular, I loved Rene, who was not only Hal’s assistant, but also provided a father figure. Flamboyant and engaging, he wasn’t afraid to confront Hal when needed, and if the author wants to write a novella giving him a second chance at love (he’s a widower), I, for one, would be all over that story.
Great characters, all the feels, plus steam, humor, and a little suspense to keep things interesting. 5+ stars

A damaged alpha hero who thinks he’s unworthy and incapable of love? Yes, please! And Moreland gives us a beautifully broken, compelling hero in Halton. An attorney and champion of truth and justice, Hal helps those who might not get help otherwise. When someone with close ties to his biggest rival comes to Hal for help, all bets are off. He'll fight tooth and nail to get justice, but he’s not prepared for the unfamiliar feelings that are stirred up.
This author has an uncanny ability to sneak inside my heart, from the characters she makes me fall in love with to the wide array of emotions she evokes, and everything in between. Although I wanted to shake Hal a time or ten (but his assistant, Rene, and the BAM guys did that for me), I couldn’t help but admire the quality of his character and they way he loves those close to him without ever realizing it. Seems everyone but Hal can see into the depths of his heart. I adored Fiona, a character who changed and grew to a very different person by the end of the book, and the way she related to and interacted with Hal was pure perfection and exactly what he needed.
I loved every moment of this story and was held in its grip as I flew through the pages in one sitting. It’s heartfelt and a bit tragic, but also humorous and sweet, and it’s the perfect addition to this series. Don’t miss this emotional, captivating, fantastic read!

Love, love, LOVE Hal & Fee's story. I think I've always seen Hal as the old curmudgeon instead of the hot, sexy, still pretty young, curmudgeon he is. He fights for the good people, but he doesn't see himself as a good guy. Just a believer in justice. When he finds himself helping Fiona, Fee, divorce her husband, his nemesis, he finds so much more. Full of the feels!! Passion, a dash of sorrow, a pinch of drama, and a lot of the warm, feel-good of friends and family and love. Lots of love. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
5.0 out of 5 starsMelanie can write the best A-holes.

What can I say? Now apart from Richard, Halton is my next favorite a-hole. Oh, this series has been amazing. The BAM boys, Reid, Van, Rene! What a rollercoaster of emotions and sweetness. Halton has believed all his life that he's not capable or worthy of love but in comes a storm with gray hair named Fiona who needs help to get free from a man she once loved. It has everything that Melanie's books has, swoony A-holes, strong heroine and a bunch of meddlers to help said a-hole to get his head out of him bum hole lol. Do I recommend, well Melanie's is one of the few authors I will read instantly without knowing what I'm getting myself into, but of course I always love it.

## Mostly I loved this book. **SPOILERS: It could've been a 5 star for me if the hero hadn't reiterated a hundred times how he doesn't "do" relationships, doesn't date, doesn't ever want to love anyone, blah...blah...Funny when the story begins he's out to dinner with a woman that he sleeps with and gives gifts to (hellloo? That's called a date). Ugh I'm so over that angle. Secondly, after that freakout (tantrum really) when the heroine gives him a key to her new place and he throws it back at her and yells those unforgiving things at her, groveling was in order. Major groveling imo. But we don't get it. She forgives instantly and justifies it for him! Uh, hell to the no. But, other than those two things, I enjoyed it. It was well written, interesting, and had a very complete ending. The heroine was lovely. I love how she rediscovered herself once she was away from her awful ex. Bentley's story (book 1) remains my favorite. Hope there are more to come.
I loved every minute of this book. Halton is sweet and steamy, and has so much heart. I especially loved Rene. He's such a fun character and adds so much to this book. Fee and Halton are too cute together. I laughed. I cried. I sighed. And then I went back to reread certain parts all over again. Another job very well done by Melanie Moreland!
It's perfect . . . Halton fits in with the other books in this Vested Interest series. Halton is caring attorney who fights for his clients; mostly females. He makes sure the woman he's representing is always a winner in the court case, and is not left without what she deserves to have. His staff loves him. He has a hidden side to him that will be revealed as you read. This is a book you cannot put down. You must read the entire story from beginning to end. When you see a book written by Melanie Moreland, you know you've got a intriguing book to read. This writer is by far one of the best authors to read. All of her books are at the top of the charts.
I keep saying this series just gets better and better. Our guy was a secondary character but he fit seamlessly into the core group of BAM. I had worried when the first set was published that it was over and then we started getting gift after gift. Now I want more and more. If you happen upon my review please do yourself a favor and read the entire series. Not because you have to because you will want to find out about all of these wonderful folks. denise bailey
I really loved reading Halton and Fee's story, it is full of depth feelings and emotions. It is beautifully written, In spite of the heartache they both have felt in the past. With Halton Fee regains her strength and her sweet and caring nature will captivate Halton, who thought of himself as incapable of loving. They are so good together, tender supportive but funny as well and the end is pure perfection!
5.0 out of 5 starsHalton is one of my favorite reads this year!

This book was beautifully written. It was funny, sweet, steamy and emotional. I highlighted so many lines from this book because Melanie Moreland's words touched my heart. I loved Halton and Fee so much. They were perfect for each other and I couldn't get enough of them. The epilogue was one of the best...full of cuteness and sweetness and definitely one that is going to stick with me forever. Also, I can't review this book without mentioning Halton and Rene's relationship. OMG, they were hilarious and I enjoyed all of their conversations. I'm so glad they have each other.
