5.0 out of 5 starsChilling, heartbreaking, brilliant

Crosskey has written yet another excellent dystopian thriller. Overdrawn is a terrifyingly prescient, devastating novel, in which the protagonists, Henry and Kaitlyn, find themselves coming to hard decisions about their future and their loved ones under extraordinary circumstances in an ageist society which is frighteningly similar to our own. Chilling and heartbreaking, with more than a nod to Orwell and Atwood, this is a superb follow-up to Crosskey's brilliant debut Poster Boy. Though the novels are entirely separate, there is a palpable and powerful thread of unease and a gripping, page-turning quality that runs throughout the work. Cannot wait for Crosskey's next novel!

"But now he knew the truth. Now he knew that joy isn’t measured by its duration, but by its intensity."
I don't often five star books, they have to be something really special for me to do that, but if I could sum this book up in one quote, it would be this one.
I laughed, I got far too attached to the characters and way to invested in their stories and by the end, I was in tears.
This book is funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking and, for someone living with several chronic illnesses that feels a little too much like this could become reality--sometimes too close to home. The ending is bittersweet and although I saw it coming, I couldn't stop myself bawling when it happened.
