Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

  • Great story... but inconsistent voices?

Awesome story. Really enjoyed the narrative. Note that for some odd reason they use a different voice actor for the same character. Very difficult and confusing to follow. Apart from that, this is a great book

An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity.

I was initially into this story and thought it was a murder mystery. However that was just the opening. Then it turns into a ridiculous, over the top, unrealistic series of events. The plot is about an American who saves the world from a terrorist. The subtext is all about how great Americans are, and how everyone else (particularly Muslims) are evil, incompetent or corrupt.

You might enjoy it if you are American.... Otherwise I would avoid.
