Frank Muller is such a great narrator for this story! And what a story it is! This is such a different story from the first book and I fell in love with the characters faster than I could have imagined. I already have book three ready to go. Moving on now.

Great story, awkward narration.

I probably wouldn't continue this series if the rest of the books were read by the same narrator. He has a great voice for the gunslinger's character but I find that he parses his sentences quite awkwardly. It took me way longer than it should have to get through this.

That being said, the story is intriguing, captivating, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

A fascinating and conclusive ending.

I absolutely loved this ending to the trilogy. Pullman clearly started these books with the ending in mind and this ending did a great job at wrapping up the story. I loved the characters, I loved the performance, and I am so happy to have listened to this series!

I plan on taking a break from Pullman's work now but I will certainly come back to it. What a masterpiece!

Amazing story but the music is a bit weird.

Pullman tackles some really heavy topics this one and still maintains a sense that more is going on than we see. I can't wait to listen to The Amber Spyglass and see where things go! I would say that this book, as with many second books in trilogies, takes a much darker tone than its predecessor.

Be prepared for multiple POVs in this one, with Lyra being one of a few main characters to follow. From what I've heard, this is a bit of an adjustment for many readers.

In Book 1, the music that played before each of the three acts of the book made sense and I appreciated it as kind of a bookmark between major segments. This audiobook plays music between each chapter and it can get a little old.

Other than the music, the performance is wonderful. I love that it is narrated by Pullman himself and the voice actors are fantastic. Starting Book 3 tonight!

Beautifully done but a bit fast.

This story is phenomenal. Pullman has a talent of showing you that there is a story happening around the main narrative taking place. The lady who voiced Lyra did a fantastic job and the character really came to life for me because of it!

Personally, the narrator (Pullman) spoke a bit quickly for me. This could be because I recently finished an audiobook with a much slower speaker but there were certainly times when I struggled to follow what Pullman was saying. This doesn't matter a lot but a story like requires the reader to pay a lot of attention to detail and one could feel like the details slip past because of the speed.

I will certainly be listening to Book 2!

Incredible narrator but Book 1 is better.

This book is certainly a commitment to listen to in terms of its length but the narrator is absolutely incredible. The book is read at the perfect pace with stunning enthusiasm. I am strongly considering my next choices in audiobooks to be based purely on it being read by this narrator!

Now as for the story, it's not quite what the first one was. I still loved it - it's well-written and has that beautiful musicality and emotion I love Kvothe for. The downfall is the jumpiness of the story. It seems like this book is really three or four separate stories that don't naturally flow into each other. Just as things get really exciting in one setting, we are brought to another place with more mysteries that aren't solved. I'm giving the story 4/5 stars in the hopes that third and final book (should it ever be released, that is) answers the several burning questions I have.

One more thing: The end is abrupt. That's all I'll say. Just enjoy this story for the ride that it is.
