This book jumped back and forward then back then somewhere else. I was really fed up trying to figure out where I was in the story. This seems to be the fashion in both books and movies and its pretty annoying. The actual story was good if it hadn't been such a jumble. I kept thinking "OK now where am I" and then wondering, did I miss something.

I remember reading this book as a child of 9 or 10 and I was quite frightened by times. This listen was so completely enjoyable. It reminds me of the wonderful plays on the radio years ago. The narrators did justice to the magic storytelling of Robert Louis Stevenson. Highly recommended.

This is one of the most riveting and hesrtrending book I have ever read. Listening to the daily abject cruelty and humiliation heaped on prisoners made me almost tremble but the simple kindness to Minka by the farmers wife made me sob. It takes so little effort to extend kindness yet the Nazis could not inflict enough pain, starvation and cruelty on their prisoners. This book graphically paints a frightening portrait through the experiences of a young woman yet she saw, despite all of this, hope and refused to hate. Wonderfully written book and my first by this author. Can't wait to read more.

I’ve read books by Tami Hoag before and always enjoyed her writing style and skill. However this book surpassed all. I couldn’t stop listening and the conclusion left me quite shocked. The intertwining of the various characters and the disturbing and effects on the lives of children and very young people saddened me greatly. Thanks to Ms Hoag for a memorable book.

Retribution was a great listen by Val McDermid while the narrator really brought the various characters to life. I can’t wait to start the sequel to this. Haven’t listened to a poor book yet by McDermid. Keep them coming.

This was disappointingly cookie cutter book with a narrator who sounded like she was reading a shopping list. It was really hard for me to get to the end of this book but I made it. Just a sigh that it was over.

This is one book I just couldn’t stop listening too. The storyline was heart rendering but while it illustrated the grief of a mother for her lost child it also painted a picture of pure evil that masquerades as normal among everyday people. It was sickening to read if the sheer cruelty of media in their portrayal of this devastated woman not once, but twice. Are ratings worth this? I highly recommend this book and Joanne Froggart was a fantastic narrator. I will look forward to more books narrated by her.

Problem with the editing

This story jumped back and forward so much in time and locations, so many characters, it was annoying. I was interested because I have sponsored refugees and found what they go through sad but then the story just stopped. Aaaargh! Disappointing all round.
