Great story and characters. I love the settings in the SW England, London and Burma. Also the contrast between how England welcomed black soldiers and not so much the whites.

Not the story I expected but one I enjoyed!

At first, I thought that someone in this village had to be genuinely happy, if only to provide a contrast! Then I thought of my life growing up in a rural town and couldn't think of anyone who lived in that blythe state. So maybe this is closer to reality than I would like to think and definitely makes the case for mental health support for everyone. A good story with strong characters.

I loved this book that opens up several cultures and lifts the curtain on refugee struggles. I will be thinking a lot about the ending for some time to come.

A prequel to the apocalypse?

The story gives a really good reason to work together as a planet, or not and reap the consequences. I didn't like the interview style at first but soon was into it! I listened to the whole book while weeding and actually weeded an hour here, an hour there so I could keep listening. At the end I had all sorts of thoughts buzzing around in my mind and then, of course, that multiplied by 100 when I listened to the short but pithy epilogue! So I'm not sure whether to be upset that it was such a cliff-hanger or ecstatic that I have more books to listen to by this author. Well written with very interesting characters and lots of conflict!
