Looking to get some info on the history of voodoo and thought this might be the answer. I truly attempted to listen to it in its entirety but
Failed. Although a thorough insight into voodoo and race and gender with historical references. That’s about all this book seems to be. It focuses mostly on voodoo and its crossing of socio-economic groups. If you are looking for anything that talks about the root of voodoo and more practical implications of it this is not the book for you. A lot of work went into the research for this book but it honestly reads (or sounds in the care of audible) as a university thesis.

A surprisingly interesting and enjoyable book... not heavy

Wasnt sure if this wAs going to be textbook like or something from left over hippies.... it was neither. It was An interesting discussion in the death practices of other cultures as
Seen through the eyes of someone in the North American funeral business. It was enjoyable ... not scientific not religious but simply enjoyable. It makes one think and question why death is seen as something scary that we don’t want to be involved with. The practices of those described make total sense. The author reads the book on audible and her voice is soothing. Yes - soothing! That’s what this book was - a soothing glimpse into other cultures and how they deal with death highly recommend - content is not heavy

Growing up in Canada I watched Mr Dressup and not much Mr Rogers. I got this on audible and have recommend to everyone!!! I have a new appreciation for what Fred Rogers represents and what he has contributed to our world. To sum it up - he’s an onion. Every time you think you understand you find out there’s another layer to what he did. The way that he thought everything through down to the very last detail is simply amazing. This book was a breath of fresh air and had made me into a fan- if not of he show itself, definable the man behind it all. I’ve tried to tell others about aspects of his life and I have done it no justice. I truly believe everyone should read (or listen) to this book. The choice of narrator was perfect. A movie of his life is due out in the future and I really hope it does him the justice he deserves. Fred Rogers was a true genius and should be an inspiration for all.

Not any new information. Pretty much a collection of bits and pieces of previously shared tips on healthy living. Was well presented though and was a very easy listen.

So the book started off saying that we’ve all been bombarded with what we know we should do to be happy. And that this book wasn’t going to do that. Well I tried - perhaps I didn’t give it long enough. It talked about journaling and gave up to 10 different things I was to make note of .... to me this book just did what it said it wasn’t going to do.

Not a boring self help book

The narrator had a nice easy to listen to voice. The book was not a boring self help book on steps to a better life. Enjoyed the story of how the author made some small changes to
Her own life. It’s a book about her everyday life and what you take away from it is an individual experience. No steps to follow or things to do - presented is a much more laid back manner which I enjoyed

Would be better as a physical book

I had high hopes for this book. I do believe that in this case the physical book in your hand would have been better. It is informative and you don’t need to listen to chapters in order. However, that being the case it is difficult to go back and reference something from another chapter. This should be treated as more of a text book/ reference book not as easy listening

Once again bourdain tells a great story. Although I enjoyed kitchen a bit more (can’t put my finger on why) this was a great book. As he tells more stories of his life I couldn’t help morbidly looking for some key or clue from way back then to explain his last year(s). I would recommend this book as I did the last for any fan, foodie or someone wanting a break from their own monotonous day. Bourdain’s ability to tell a great story is comparable to none

Finished this book in no time - listening to was almost addictive. Bourdain is the perfect narrator for his own story and the only person who ever think of doing so. His story telling draws you in and you want more. I don’t have any particular cooking background and none is required to understand the book. Will get more by him - a little scared as I don’t want to be let down now that I know what to expect from his work but if he is at consistent that shouldn’t be a problem. Will recommend this to many and if I ever find myself faced with a long drive or trip I will listen to again. Bourdain lets you peek into his life and the troubles he faced along the way. Appreciate him now more than ever- RIP

Didn’t enjoy this as much as his book on trees. Starts off interesting but soon his anti hunting, leftist conservationist comes out and I found it distracting. Understandable that if the author is
Writing of communication etc
Amongst the animal kingdom he will need to draw comparisons with human - perhaps I am just ready for this yet.... would much rather hear about the hidden life of trees
