From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Not a bad start to what seems to be an interesting series, it started out slow for me but got interesting enough for me to write this review and buy the next book in the series. Im going to be lazy here and not state any other reasons why I like this book except for the reason I have stated, give it a go, im sure you will like it.

This is not the typical type of book I would read, I'm mostly into Science Fiction and magic based books but I must say I'm glad I gave this book a try, it was a pretty good story. You will read reviews about rape in this book and in fact there are some rape themed scenes, but this is a book about a dystopian future, I will also point out that the windup girl whom is abused was engineered to be a sex companion, its up to you how you want to think of the sexual assaults. I for one understood it as her being misused from her original intended purpose of being a sexual companion. The windup girl was only every raped by another female, The male companions had to pay for there pleasure.

With the south in full rebellion, the goblins stirring on the northern frontier, and the summer capital being run by a corrupt baron and a gang of thugs, things could be better. But those aren’t the worst of her problems: Pentandra is learning how to live with her new husband, Arborn, while the town is driven to distraction by an incarnate sex goddess who is organizing all of the whores, a mopey spellmonger, a nun addicted to gambling, a prude sent by the queen, undead skulking through the shadows, and a mysterious blind girl shows up in her office claiming to be her new apprentice.

Well this book is a serious letdown for me, I thought I was getting the next book in the Spellmonger series, well I was sorely mistaken.

This is by far one of my most favourite book series on Audible, but this book will not be included, I doubt I will even finish this book. In fact im more than likely going to have my credit refunded.

If you want a book that basically goes nowhere and focuses on Pentandra and the Eeshey God of love or lust or whatever then this book is for you. For the first few hours of this book I was asking myself is the whole book going to be about this crap, then I got curious and jumped to a few later chapters and realized yes.....yes indeed its about Pentandra and Eeshey. Whats worse is there seems to be 35 hours focusing on one bloody festival including Characters I don’t and will never care about. Are you serious Terry??? 35+ hours of shite content that adds no substance to the spellmonger series??? This book should be a standalone side story, or possibly 2-3 hours in a proper Spellmonger book, you know like some basic tying backstorys together, but an entire book dedicated to a crapy and I mean Crapy story. Wow im so disappointed that an Author like Terry would release this.

Maybe you the reader of this review will like this book, good luck.

So here I was furiously looking for one of the ‘next’ books from one of my favourite authors and of course noooone of them have released new books, so I decided I would try something new, you know just because I have nothing better to do, the usual story. Anyways I decided on this book as the description arose my curiosity, and I must say I was very happy with this book, so much so I completely forgot about the aforementioned authors with no new books to release. Now that im done this one I will be moving onto the next and if all goes good with the next book I will be adding this author to my family of core writing people I enjoy.

Go ahead and pick this hidden gem up, or I guess put your ear buds in or head phones on, because lets face it, who on gods green earth has the time to actually sit down and read a book these days, since were all in a hurry to do nothing you may as well do something while doing nothing and give this book a try.

Regards,

From an amateur who thinks he’s a amateur

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

My review matches the stupidity of this book.

Well, The Frisha character has gone from okay to cringe worthy, I was never really a fan of how she was written and now the direction the author has taken her is very much cringe worthy, to the point where I had to skip past the parts with her in it. There is a lot going on in this series and unfortunately Frisha is a big part of whats going on, I do hope the author can move past her onto better characters or write her out all together. If not I will be cutting this series from my list.

Overall this book and the others in the series are a good read “listen” but the Frisha character may start to ruin the series as she has for me. Good luck

Where to start... Well ill keep this short and focus on the few main reasons why I am returning this book.

Firstly I want to say the Narrator does a fantastic jobs, that’s probably why I was able to make it through this book.

Overall this story just feels flat, linear and boring , I honestly could care less about any of the characters. I will say the author did a pretty good job at keeping things organized as he switches from character to character.

The story does get somewhat interesting but ends up becoming very predictable and resulted in me loosing intery.

The characters in this book are the worst. To name a few such as a self loathing northern princess with a big brooding escort... and don’t get me started on the homosexual relationship between the annoying life marked and stupid prince. I like a good relationship in a book but this one is so cliche.
Or how about the Princess who gives up her virtue only to become scorned and seek revenge only to still love the man she ended up hating and then screwing over.....And wait.....that man who gets screwed over pretends not to still like her only to end up thinking about her non stop....

Final verdict..... this author and series are not for me, I generally don’t gets refunds but this book is a special case. Try this book or not, you can always get a refund

Overall the story was enjoyable and the ending was interesting but there is one significant flaw I do not care for. Dena is the flaw to this story. Im not entirely sure why the author has chosen to write Dena in this way, I am at the point now where I skip through the parts of the book that include Dena as anything to do with Dena breaks the immersion for me, I do understand this tale is supposed to be a tragedy but the way Dena is written reminds me of a stupid girl running from bed to bed, it doesn’t fit the overall feel of the story and unfortunately Dena is a major part of the story plot so I will not continue with book 3 when it comes out.

Its too bad as this story has a lot going for it but Dena is a deal breaker for me.

By the was Nick is one of the best narrators on audible, he always does a fantastic job.
