Histoire
From the author of the “engrossing” (People) and “poignant” (Booklist) international best seller The Room on Rue Amélie comes a remarkable and moving story of love, danger, and betrayal: two women in France in the darkest days of World War II and another in present-day America on a quest to uncover the secret that connects them.

Histoire
In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (German for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. Imprisoned for more than two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism - but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

Excellent story but not for the weak of heart

The graphic story turned by stomach several times and made me pray this never happens again. I fell in love with the characters and cannot wait to listen to the next story about Cilca.

Histoire
It's 2038 and Jacinda (Jake) Greenwood is a storyteller and a liar, an overqualified tour guide babysitting ultra-rich-eco-tourists in one of the world's last remaining forests. It's 2008 and Liam Greenwood is a carpenter, sprawled on his back after a workplace fall and facing the possibility of his own death. It's 1974 and Willow Greenwood is just out of jail for one of her environmental protests: attempts at atonement for the sins of her father's once vast and rapacious timber empire.

Disappointing ending
Évalué le: 2019-11-30
I was absolutely loving this novel and could no wait to keep listening. But the ending was such a disappointment. At times it was difficult to keep all the characters and decades straight.

I was bought into the horrors of Nazi Germany through this story from a perspective I had never seen. Excellent and exciting. I never drifted from the story and missed several hours of sleep to keep listening.
