can't wait to put these lessons in to practice. couldn't put it down . performance was good but would have been even better if narrated by Chris himself to add personality

Ayyan masterfully takes you on a journey through her childhood in Somalia, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia. It provides a completely new perspective to westeners on the cultures in those countries and how Islam is embedded within them. the latter section is a thrilling story of perseverance in the face of a complete culture shock. her views on migrant integration in the west are refreshing

too preachy for a novel

i decided to read this book after I heard of Nabeel's passing. Initially I was worried that it might be an emotionally laden and shallow reflection without much substance. but after the introduction I was hooked. Nabeel does an incredible job painting an accurate picture of his muslim upbringing while being fair, respecful and even praising Islam. I highly recommend this as a very light and engaging read for westeners trying to figure out what muslims believe and how their worldview is shaped in the middle east. even if you don't care for the second half of his stort highlighting how he found Jesus. It's still a worthwhile read.
